History Of Women’s Golf Fashions
1894 — Feathered hat. Long wool skirt. Simple fitted blouse. Problems. Ladies couldn’t swing fully due to the style of blouses, and the club often got hung up in the skirt as it swept by.
1904 — Finally, a “Free-stroke Coat” that sported special sleeves that women could actually swing in. They also invented the *gulp* “raisable” skirt to bring the dress up a scandalous eight inches off the ground.
1920s — Sweaters make their first appearance, skirts became easier to move in and shorter, and even some daring women started sporting knickers — although many clubs would have asked them to leave.
1930-1960s — Not much improvement. Skirts were still the main outfit with blouses that were easier to swing in.
1970s — Polyester. (Remember those days?)
1980s to Present — Shorter skirts and shorts became the norm. Polos and newer athletic wear made with modern fabrics came on the scene.
It’s Not Just About Skirts Anymore
Looking back over the history of women’s golf fashion, it’s great to see the vast variety of clothing options available today. Skirts, shorts, and combo “skorts” (like the the Tehama Womens Skort) are popular as well as cropped pants and capris (like this pair of Girls Pink Capri Pants).
And let’s not forget about accessories, either. Today’s hats, shoes, sunglasses, and watches come in styles and colors that are flattering, feminine, and often can be color-coordinated to even match the golf bag.
