But perhaps none are so closely associated with golf than FootJoy -- makers of golf shoes, gloves, rain gear, hats, socks, and more. If you've ever watched a golf tournament on television or flipped through a golf magazine, you've no doubt seen someone wearing FootJoy gear, or seen a logo on a cap, or at least seen an advertisement. Unknown to many, however, is that FootJoy also makes dress shoes. And these aren't just any old dress shoes -- these are premium made shoes, hand-stitched in the USA -- that are just as at home in the board room as in the clubhouse.

Made from a variety of leather materials, the uppers are chiefly fashioned from calfskin for a soft, comfortable fit. The difference between calfskin uppers and just "leather" is like putting on a brand new pair of jeans versus the 5-year old pair that is faded, and worn, and fit just right. The feel of fine calfskin is hard to beat. Inside the shoe, FootJoy does not scrimp, using full leather linings, a cushioned leather insole, and a Goodyear Welt construction. The outsoles are water-resistant leather with a rubber heel. Having worn FootJoy shoes for years, I can attest to their comfort, durability, and timeless styling.

The style of FootJoy dress shoes are pretty conservative, as you might imagine. A split-toe Blucher and Brogan are standard fare. Recently, however, FootJoy has shifted much of their dress shoe line to what they call Country Club Casuals. These are fine shoes as well, but provide a little more flair and a few more style choices that aren't quite so much "your father's shoes." FootJoy dress shoes are not the least expensive option available, but they are a good value. And with their classic styling, they will retain their good looks and appeal for many years of comfortable and durable wear.

FootJoy Classics Dry Premiere Mens Golf Shoes | Waterproof Soft Leather http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-premiere-mens-golf-shoes-dry-classics-waterproof-soft-leather/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-premiere-mens-golf-shoes-dry-classics-waterproof-soft-leather/#comments Wed, 06 Apr 2011 16:44:40 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3786 I really like the look of this classic golf shoe.  I haven’t quite adjusted to the new flashy designs that Nike and Adidas are putting out there.  I’ve read recently that FootJoy Classics are not being made anymore by FootJoy.  This is another tragedy of the recent downturn in the economy.

The reason I’m big on FootJoy shoes even more than the look is because of the comfort.  These Classics are made with soft comfortable calfskin inside and out.    Before I discovered FootJoy golf shoes, I thought that in order to find a golf shoe that was completely waterproof, you had to put up with a month or so of breaking in stiff, painful leather.  However, that’s not the case with these Classic Dry Premiere golf shoes.  They are very soft from the moment you first put them on.

The biggest complaint I’ve heard over the years about FootJoy’s revolves around their durability.  Some people have mentioned that the leather doesn’t last as long as other brands and that after a year it starts pulling apart.  This may be true, but I haven’t experienced it yet, and I’ve been wearing FJs for about ten years now.  I would recommend that you take care of them and clean them after each round and use a foot tree to maximize their longevity.  And of course, remember most FJs come with a two-year warranty.

FootJoy Icon Mens Golf Shoes, | Leather Waterproof Memory Foam, Asymmetrical http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-icon-mens-golf-shoes-leather-waterproof-memory-foam-asymmetrical/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-icon-mens-golf-shoes-leather-waterproof-memory-foam-asymmetrical/#comments Fri, 25 Mar 2011 16:22:30 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3767 FootJoy Icon Mens Golf Shoes, These FootJoy icons are a departure from FJ's "Classics" that go back to 1959. Due to this crappy economy, FJ has closed one of its plants in Brocton, MA. I'm a big FootJoy guy and really don't mess around with too many other brands. The reason is because comfort is Priority 1 for me, and my FJs are "good to go" from the time I took them out of the box. I'm still sporting my FJ Contours, and they are holding up great.

Let's take a closer look at all the technology packed into this Icon (and there's a lot to see). The Icon combines a lot of the technology used in some of their previous lines. The uppers are made of premium leather with calfskin and have a two-year waterproof warranty. Inside, the shoe is a full leather lining and a slip-resistant foot bed. The tongue and collar contain memory foam to form fit to your foot, and the heel has a microfiber counter to give you even more slip resistance.

Bottom line is, this is a high-performance shoe that is geared for stability, comfort, and protection from the elements. I'm not sure what else you'd want from a shoe except maybe fashion. I'm no fashion expert, but I'd say they're pretty handsome-looking as well.

Ladies Footjoy Golf Sandals, Greenjoy | Velcro Shoes w/ Spikes Drift Atomic Blue 48443 http://www.zipgolfer.com/ladies-footjoy-golf-sandals-greenjoy-velcro-shoes-w-spikes-drift-atomic-blue-48443/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/ladies-footjoy-golf-sandals-greenjoy-velcro-shoes-w-spikes-drift-atomic-blue-48443/#comments Mon, 20 Dec 2010 00:11:16 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3488 Ladies Footjoy Golf Sandals, Greenjoy I'm the guy you want reviewing golf sandals -- I'm a sandal guy. Many of rounds, I've taken ridicule and persecution as I walked up to the first tee sporting my ventilated convertible foot wear. (My friends can be a little snooty when it comes to golf apparel.) The thing about golf sandals is: if you make the right adjustment (from wearing more stable golf shoes) like slowing down and focusing on tempo, you will find your golf sandals to be a secret weapon.

In other words, a less stable shoe can actually help your tempo. The reason being, that when you wrap the club around your head and coil up like a spring, if you spastically come unwound like a Yoyo, you’re going to end up in the creek next to the tee box.

So most people will make a much slower swing and find themselves hitting the ball on the center of the clubface more often. This may actually make the ball go further than your typical ferocious swing that resembles a panicked person trying to swat a bee with a broom stick.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying these sandals don’t have any grab in them. They are equipped with soft spikes in the bottom, just like the majority of your traditional golf shoes. Thus, they are certainly better than flip flops.

The main thing I'm looking for in a golf sandal... hold on to your hats, this might surprise you – is comfort. I'm really more concerned with the feel on my feet than how stable the shoe is. That and some cool tan lines. When you play as much golf as I do, sometimes you need a break from those stiff, sweaty golf shoes, or I just can’t find any clean socks. Either way, it makes for a nice change and a good conversation piece for my foursome (regarding my pale, funky feet).

Let's face it, if you are playing golf in sandals, then you are giving up performance for pleasure. And these FootJoys are very comfy. FootJoy in my opinion, (sandals or not) are the most comfortable golf shoes on the market.

In addition, these FootJoy Sandals are about as good as it gets in stability for a golf sandal. The soles are very firm, and the lining underneath - the adjustable Velcro straps - lock your foot down very tight. And the several soft spikes on the bottom, as I previously mentioned, are decent enough for gripping.

Thus, compared to flip flops and Birkenstocks, these are a good alternative to play golf. On those hot summer days it’s fun to get out sans socks and let the puppies breath, but.still be able to rip your drives, just watch out for the adjacent creek. I also like the Bite Women's Double X TG Golf Sandal, but it's not quite as comfortable as the Footjoy.

Mens FootJoy StaSof Golf Gloves | Soft Leather White Cabretta by Pittards of England http://www.zipgolfer.com/mens-footjoy-stasof-golf-gloves-soft-leather-white-cabretta-by-pittards-of-england/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/mens-footjoy-stasof-golf-gloves-soft-leather-white-cabretta-by-pittards-of-england/#comments Tue, 22 Jun 2010 11:29:59 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2895 Mens FootJoy StaSof Golf Gloves Well the name doesn't lie, this glove is very soft! When you put this glove on it's like putting on your favorite pair of driving gloves. (You have driving gloves, no? For driving your Rolls Royce?)

The glove is made of Taction Cabretta Leather by Pittards of England. (Well "La Di Dah!" ) The leather, besides being very soft and comfortable, has a strong grip and is very resistant to moisture.

My favorite thing about the glove is (as previously mentioned) it is extremely soft and stays soft. The downside of the glove is that the glove wears out pretty quickly. This is similar to FootJoy's shoes. FootJoy makes the most comfortable shoe in the game, but some of them tend to wear out quicker. I'd give it about six rounds before you will be buying another one of these gloves. This isn't a big deal as the glove is pretty reasonably priced.

If you want a more durable glove, check out the Callaway X-Series Men's Golf Glove. This is another very comfortable glove, only more durable. It also is a lot flashier-looking then the Plain Jane FootJoy Glove.

FootJoy Contour Golf Shoes | Men’s Waterproof Leather 54108 http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-contour-golf-shoes-mens-waterproof-leather-54108/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-contour-golf-shoes-mens-waterproof-leather-54108/#comments Sat, 31 Oct 2009 10:10:21 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=1819 FootJoy Contour Golf Shoes These FootJoy Contour series are the most comfortable shoes that I've ever worn. Right out of the box, they feel like they are already broken in. If you have problems with your dogs barking after a round of golf, you will want to give these shoes a try.

These shoes are designed with full-grain waterproof leather uppers and a contoured urethane midsole insert and a contoured ultra-cushioned EVA midsole. What's more is, they come with a two-year waterproof warranty.

It's very rare that I run across a golf shoe that is completely waterproof and also this comfortable. Most fully waterproof shoes are made of stiff leather that takes some time to break in and beat up your feet in the process. This is not the case with these FootJoy Contour shoes. The first time you put them on, they feel like they've already been broken in.

On the down side, I've had problems with these shoes not lasting as long as the aforementioned stiff leather shoes. With these particular shoes, I've had problems with the interior of the shoe wearing out. If this is a concern for you, take a look at Adidas' Fitrx Golf Shoes. These shoes are built to take a beating and are also very comfortable.

FootJoy GreenJoys | Men’s Golf Shoes | PVC Rubber Outsole http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-greenjoys-mens-golf-shoes-pvc-rubber-outsole/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-greenjoys-mens-golf-shoes-pvc-rubber-outsole/#comments Thu, 29 Oct 2009 13:35:32 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=1782 FootJoy GreenJoys Here's a bare-bones inexpensive shoe by FootJoy. This shoe is comfortable and will get you from point A to point B, but it isn't the most advanced shoe FootJoy has (by far.)

This shoe is made of imitation leather. It's a PVC (poly vinyl chloride). It is soft and water-resistant and has a similar look and feel to leather. In addition, this shoe has "Olympic Last." This is an athletic fit which means it has a full-rounded toe, a fuller fit across the forefoot, and a full instep with a narrower heel.

This GreenJoy has rubber insoles and a rubber outsole with Pulsar Cleats. Pulsar Cleats are the best selling cleats in golf.

I would only recommend this shoe if you are just getting into golf and are not looking to play more than a few rounds a year. Otherwise, take a look at FootJoy's DryJoys. For a little more money, you will get a lot more shoe. DryJoys are made of real leather, not the fake stuff like this shoe. The DryJoy is 100% waterproof with a 2-year waterproof warranty. It is one of the most comfortable shoes on the market and totally worth the extra cost. Give it a try and thank me later.

FootJoy DryJoys Men’s Golf Shoes | Soft Leather Waterproof Classics http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-dryjoys-mens-golf-shoes-soft-leather-waterproof-lining-53761/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-dryjoys-mens-golf-shoes-soft-leather-waterproof-lining-53761/#comments Wed, 28 Oct 2009 10:28:20 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=1780 Footjoy DryJoys Men's Golf Shoes FootJoy's DryJoys shoe has been an extremely successful model for the company. It comes in several different styles — we'll talk about the DryJoy in general first, and then we'll get to some details on the variations.

First off, let me just say that I'm going to gush a little in this review. FootJoy DryJoys are my favorite golf shoe, so I might sound like I'm a little over the top here. But I'll give you some good reasons and then I will point out one downside with the shoe.

The DryJoys are my favorite because they are so comfortable. The main reason is because of the soft leather. It's FootJoy's "ECL Leather System by Pittards." This is a proprietary waterproofing system constructed with Pittards of England. ECL stands for "Extreme Comfort Leather" and it is 30% softer than previous Footjoy models. What's more is it has a 2-year waterproof warranty.

Another reason the shoe is so comfortable is because it has full leather linings and EVA Fit-Beds. The leather linings are very comfortable and make the shoe breathable, and the EVA Fit is a ethyl vinyl acetate foot bed which cushions under your foot and never loses its shape.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and claim that FootJoys are the most comfortable shoe on the market. You will not find a more comfortable shoe that is also 100% waterproof. As one of my golf buddies (a 3 handicapper) put it the other day, "When you first put on a FootJoy shoe (after buying them), it feels like they've already been broken in for you." That's a pretty good endorsement.

Unfortunately, there's a small downside to the softer leather. These shoes tend to wear a little quicker than other high-end brands. If you are interested in a shoe that has a longer life, take a look at Adidas Golf Fitrx Golf Shoes. They have Adidas' AdiTuff technology on the toe. This is an abrasion-resistant material that protects the toe from wear.

The variations in DryJoys are mostly cosmetic. Some details on that:

  • The 53703 is the standard, saddle style. This is the classic look that many people prefer.
  • The 53761 or 53762 is a sportier-looking model. This is a departure from the standard saddle style. It's sportier and looks like a good-looking running shoe.
  • The P.R.O. version is a higher-end model this is increasingly hard to find. The 'PRO' stands for Platform Responsive Outsole. This outsole is fused by a lightweight, but very strong, aluminized-fiberglass bridge. This is designed to give the golfer stability in the mid-foot section while reducing the heaviness of the shoe.
  • Other variations include the 53622, the 53614 and the 53729. These are stylistic differences, still closely resembling the classic look, but with solid black and brown colors instead of the two-tone look.

Footjoy Athletics Mens Golf Shoes | Waterproof White EVA 56772 http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-athletics-mens-golf-shoes-waterproof-white-eva-56772/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-athletics-mens-golf-shoes-waterproof-white-eva-56772/#comments Wed, 21 Oct 2009 13:34:19 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=1770 Footjoy Athletics Mens Golf Shoes I'm not a big fan of these golf shoes. Don't get me wrong; FootJoy makes a great product, but these are their scaled-down model. Let's call it the "Economy" FootJoy.

Let's point out the positives first. It's inexpensive. Plus, the shoe is waterproof. It has a 1-year waterproof warranty. "FootJoy warrants that this golf shoe will be waterproof in normal use for one year." (Normal use? I guess this means you can't wear them in the bath tub.) Unfortunately, this 1-year warranty is one year less than the next-step-up FootJoys that have the ECL Leather System like the SYNR-G.

Another positive is this shoe has the cushioned EVA Fit Bed. This ethyl vinyl acetate cushioning does not take a set, meaning that it will never wear down. Finally, the cleats go on and off with just a quarter turn. How nice.

If I were you, I'd invest a little more money for a nicer shoe like the previously mentioned SYNR-G or the Dry Joys. These are superior products that are extremely comfortable, have the 2-year waterproof warranty, and will be with you for a long time. Don't buy this "Economy" FootJoy; your feet will thank me later.

FootJoy SYNR-G Men’s Golf Shoes | Leather Waterproof w/ Stinger Cleats http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-synr-g-mens-golf-shoes-leather-waterproof-w-stinger-cleats/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/footjoy-synr-g-mens-golf-shoes-leather-waterproof-w-stinger-cleats/#comments Sat, 17 Oct 2009 20:19:18 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=1765 FootJoy SYNR-G Men's Golf Shoes These cool FootJoy SYNR-G golf shoes were designed for golfers looking for stability and motion control. The three main features at work here are the FootJoy's Tri-lateral Stability Frame, Alloy Stability Bridge, and Stinger Cleats.

The Tri-Lateral Stability Frame is built with TPU (thermoplastic urethane) and EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) to supply motion control and stability. An Alloy Stability Bridge is strategically placed in the shoe to help reduce twisting and increase the stability of the platform. Finally the Stinger cleats will give you the grip of a mountain lion. These spikes are different then your typical golf spikes in that they have spring-flex traction with are extra gentle on the greens.

I especially like Footjoy shoes because they are so darn soft. The main reason is because this shoe has Footjoy's "ECL Leather System by Pittards." This is a proprietary waterproofing system constructed with Pittards of England. ECL stands for "Extreme Comfort Leather" and it is 30% softer than previous Footjoy models. What's more is it has a 2-year waterproof warranty.

The one drawback to this shoe is the durability. Where FootJoy reigns supreme in comfort, they can wear down quicker than other shoes. One place I've seen this is in the toe of the shoe of my back foot. Like most golfers I will drag my toe on the downswing. After a lot of use, the toe starts to separate from the sole. If this is a concern for you, check out Adidas Golf Fitrx Golf Shoes. They have Adidas' AdiTuff technology on the toe. This is an abrasion-resistant material that protects the toe from wear.
