VFT is an acronym for Variable Face Thickness, and is a patented feature from Callaway. This feature allows Callaway to fine-tune the performance of every club throughout the set, maximizing the performance characteristics of each iron to its intended purpose. The Hawkeye VFT features a long, internal weight pocket that extends the weight distribution further across the face of each iron, allowing for more forgiveness on off-center hits and keeping the ball headed closer to your intended goal. With a compact head size (within the game-improvement club category) and thinner top-line in the titanium head, these irons will appeal to many players. Callaway has also redesigned the 360° undercut channel on the back of the Hawkeye VFT, which allows them to position the center of gravity precisely in each iron through the set.

The Hawkeye VFT irons cover nearly every option a golfer could imagine. Available in sets (3-PW) and individual 1 and 2-irons as well as Sand, Lob, and "A" wedges, they were produced in both right hand and left hand orientations. There are two shaft options to choose from, both Callaway OEM exclusives: System 75 Ascending Mass Graphite Shaft (Light, Regular and Firm flex) or the Callaway Uniflex Steel Shaft. Although the Callaway Hawkeye VFT clubs were produced in 2002, they are widely available in used sets or individual irons from a multitude of online merchants.

Titleist DTR Irons Review | Men’s & Ladies Golf Clubs Set for Long Distance http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-dtr-irons-review-mens-ladies-golf-clubs-set-for-long-distance/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-dtr-irons-review-mens-ladies-golf-clubs-set-for-long-distance/#comments Mon, 13 Jun 2011 16:41:33 +0000 Jess http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=4322 Drive. Threaten the ball in the air. Repeat.

While this accurately describes an acronym of my golf game, thankfully it is not what the DTR stands for in the Titleist DTR irons. So just what exactly does it stand for?

"Distance Through Research."

Nice, Titleist. I dig. This company has always innovated in order to deliver nice irons. I have tried several sets (including a five and seven iron of the DTRs) and they do swing nicely. They don’t have a lot of “fluff” to them, and the heel and toe are nicely balanced to produce a nice big sweet spot.

When I hit the five iron, I had trouble producing a high shot -- though it always traveled the right distance. This is no fault of the club, I’m sure. The seven iron produced a consistent, nice high shot that traveled my normal “seven iron distance.”

87 yards. Just kidding; it was at least ten yards farther than that.

While these were produced way back in the early '90s, these used sets that you’ll find are a great find. They also keep a pretty good resale value if these are “stepping stone” irons for you, but are good enough to keep you swinging for years to come.

In addition, these irons are nice enough to cause even the smuggest members of your foursome to nod in approval at a good set of Titleist irons in your bag. Highly recommended.

Nike Lady SlingShot HL Individual Iron | Women’s Golf AW Club Review http://www.zipgolfer.com/nike-lady-slingshot-hl-individual-iron-womens-golf-aw-club-review/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/nike-lady-slingshot-hl-individual-iron-womens-golf-aw-club-review/#comments Sun, 01 May 2011 16:55:57 +0000 Jess http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=4029 Nike Lady SlingShot HL Individual Iron I have a confession to make. I feel like a Benedict Arnold writing this review. I'll tell you why. I have a few brands that I'm a total nerd for: Apple, Verizon, and... Nike. Whenever there is a Nike product, I'm a little biased -- and often give it a positive review unless it really disappoints.

I'm doing that now. And I feel like I'm betraying one of my brand-crushes.

Sorry, Nike, but your Lady SlingShot series leaves something to be desired. While I understand they have a distinct design in mind for ladies, I could still hold the club and take a couple of swings to see what it felt like. Ugh. Felt cheap. All over.

What Nike may have tried to do is create a general fairly-priced club (this review being for a single AW) without a lot of frills -- relying solely on the name and Tiger's strong product placement to sell it. However, it just doesn't match up with some of their stronger items that have come out in the last few years. I'm going to be bold enough to say this -- but it is almost as if Nike gave this "project" to a lesser company that manufactured it for them and Nike slapped their swoosh on it. They just feel that bad.

I'm sorry Nike. I know we have had a good past. But to mine own self be true... or something profound like that. You just missed it on this one.

TaylorMade Ladies R7 Irons | Women’s CGB Max Clubs, Weighted Tungsten Largest Clubface http://www.zipgolfer.com/taylormade-ladies-r7-irons-womens-cgb-max-clubs-weighted-tungsten-largest-clubface/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/taylormade-ladies-r7-irons-womens-cgb-max-clubs-weighted-tungsten-largest-clubface/#comments Thu, 21 Apr 2011 16:46:16 +0000 Jess http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3906 TaylorMade Ladies R7 Irons My wife does not need another edge. Enough already, TaylorMade. You realize that these ladies make their way into our foursomes, tee up yards ahead of us, have no crazy-angry-over-the-top ego that makes them swing too hard, and put it down the middle every time? You know this, right?

So take your special irons that boast the largest clubface of any TaylorMade iron. Take your tungsten weights to increase MOI and stability. Take your tour-proven Inverted Cone Technology for more forgiving hits and put it into something that helps the men. Take that technology and make it so my partner doesn't fight to keep a straight face when I thump a six-inch-deep divot. Take that technology and make it impossible for me to force me to stop making claims about my game that get dashed to the ground when I worm-burn a shot. The ladies don't need clubs that make them go farther down the middle. We need clubs that sense where the trees are, and automatically hit the ball the other way.

Check that. My wife just texted me. She needs new clubs, and if I don't get TaylorMades, I eat tuna casserole for the next six days straight. Where can I buy these?

TaylorMade Lady Burner Plus Iron Set | Milled Womens Golf Clubs, Right Handed http://www.zipgolfer.com/taylormade-lady-burner-plus-iron-set-milled-womens-golf-clubs-right-handed/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/taylormade-lady-burner-plus-iron-set-milled-womens-golf-clubs-right-handed/#comments Wed, 15 Dec 2010 16:19:27 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3510 TaylorMade Lady Burner Plus Iron Set If you are a fan of TaylorMade clubs, then you already know about their inverted cone technology. This technology was originally developed for their drivers. It's CNC-milled directly into the back side of the golf club. This allows TaylorMade to drastically vary the thickness of the clubface. This results in a bigger COR zone.

What the heck is COR? COR is the spring effect or trampoline effect of the club that makes the ball jump off the face like a kangaroo being stung by a bee. In addition, the Burner irons have TaylorMade's new fandagled Superfast technology. This technology includes lighter shafts and grips with higher launch angle faces. Together, the Superfast and the inverted cone technology make this one of the most game-improving irons on the market.

I would recommend these irons for you ladies that are looking for more distance with an extremely forgiving clubface. Other good irons in this department are the Callaway Diablo Edge Irons Hybrid Combo Set. I like this set because of the cool graphics that hide the cavity back design. I also like the Cobra S2 Max Ladies Irons.

Nike Slingshot Ladies Golf Iron Set w/ 4 Hybrid | Thin Club, Graphite Shaft Right Handed http://www.zipgolfer.com/nike-slingshot-ladies-golf-iron-set-w-4-hybrid-thin-club-graphite-shaft-right-handed/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/nike-slingshot-ladies-golf-iron-set-w-4-hybrid-thin-club-graphite-shaft-right-handed/#comments Mon, 13 Dec 2010 16:17:55 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3508 Nike Slingshot Ladies Golf Iron Set w/I'm not a huge fan of these Nike Slingshot irons, although they do have some cool technology. I think the turnoff for me is the "Slingshot" printed on the back of the cavity. It looks kind of "Walmart-ish" to me.

Having said that, if you can get past the look, you might appreciate some of the technology. The set has a very hot, thin face that creates enormous ball speeds off the face. This obviously means more distance. The face is constructed using welding. This allows for one of the thinnest faces in a very forgiving cavity back clubface. Thus the sweet spot is big and the ball flies high quickly after impact.

The best thing about the set is it comes with a 4 hybrid. You will probably end up hitting this club more than all your irons combined. It's very easy to hit off the tee and off the ground.

For a set that is cooler-looking with just as much technology, check out the Callaway Diablo Edge Irons Hybrid Combo Set. I like these because of the cool graphics that definitely don't look like they came from Walmart.

Cobra Ladies S2 Max Iron Club Set | Aldila Graphite Shaft, Cavity Back Right Handed http://www.zipgolfer.com/cobra-ladies-s2-max-iron-club-set-aldila-graphite-shaft-cavity-back-right-handed/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/cobra-ladies-s2-max-iron-club-set-aldila-graphite-shaft-cavity-back-right-handed/#comments Sat, 11 Dec 2010 16:05:02 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3505 Cobra Ladies S2 Max Iron Club Set Alright ladies, if you can't hit these irons, then you should consider tennis (or at least a lesson with a pro). These Cobra S2s are such forgiving clubs that you are going to fall in love with them.

Let's get into the technology. This is a cavity back club. It's pretty simple-looking and clean, but don't let that fool you -- it's a modern, super game-improving design. The sole is wide with a low profile. I like these a lot better than Cobras S9s because they've reduced the contact area with the ground. Another nice bonus is the Aldila's NVS-HL graphite shaft, which has a low kick point to help you get the ball flying high very quickly.

I recommend these irons for the high to mid handicappers that are looking for an iron that is easy to swing with a bodacious sweet spot. Another iron you should look at before you buy is the Callaway Diablo Edge Irons. I like these because of their cool modern looks with the cavity back somewhat camouflaged.

Confidence esp3 Golf Iron Club Set | Women’s Hybrid Irons 3-PW For High Launch http://www.zipgolfer.com/confidence-esp3-golf-iron-club-set-womens-hybrid-irons-3-pw-for-high-launch/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/confidence-esp3-golf-iron-club-set-womens-hybrid-irons-3-pw-for-high-launch/#comments Thu, 11 Nov 2010 21:08:43 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3449 Confidence esp3 Golf Iron Club Set Need more confidence with your irons? Well, these hybrid irons are designed to do that. Not so fast! Don't throw away your irons just yet.

Let's take a closer look at these esp3 Hybrids. (Sounds very scientific, doesn't it?) The science actually is pretty simple and has been sweeping the golf world for the last five years. They've added mass to the club which brings the center of gravity back and low. This helps the club launch the ball higher faster and is very forgiving.

The idea is valid, and these clubs are okay if you are a beginner and don't want to drop too much money on a set of golf clubs. Remember to buy a sand wedge and a putter separately though if you go with this set.

However, I would urge you to spend just a little bit more money and check out a few other sets. My favorite is the Adams Golf A7OS Starter Set. Adams is the leader in the hybrid market, and this set is reasonably priced and extremely easy to swing. Another set that I like is the Callaway Golf Solaire 9-Piece Complete Club Set. Of course Callaway makes a great product, and this is a great price for a set of golf clubs.

Medicus Dual Hinged 5 Iron Club | Golf Swing Training Aid http://www.zipgolfer.com/medicus-dual-hinged-5-iron-club-golf-swing-training-aid/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/medicus-dual-hinged-5-iron-club-golf-swing-training-aid/#comments Tue, 01 Sep 2009 16:19:15 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=639 Medicus Dual Hinged 5 Iron Club If you haven't swung a Medicus club, boy are you in for a treat. Well, by "treat" I mean if you are a masochist, and you like shanking balls across the driving range.

Seriously though, this is a really great training tool. I don't really like most of the golf gadgets that are out there, but this one really works.

Let me explain how. The makers of The Medicus have attached a hinge to the shaft of a 5-iron. The concept being that unless you swing the club with good tempo and on plane, the hinge will release and you will not make solid contact with the ball. You may not even make any contact with the ball.

With the Medicus you cannot pick the club up to start your swing (a very common swing flaw). Instead, to keep the hinge from releasing you will need to sweep the club back. Medicus will teach you to use your body more and concentrate on tempo.

It doesn't take that long to get the hang of either. I would say maybe an hour or two and you will notice a vast improvement in your golf swing.

You might also check out the Medicus 460cc Dual Hinged Golf Training Driver. It looks just like a modern day driver and because of the weight of the big driver head, it's even harder to master than the 5 iron.

Maybe when you first swing the Medicus, it may not be such a treat. However, if you have swing flaws such as bad tempo or you are horribly off plane, using the Medicus will certainly improve your golf game -- and that, my friend, will be a huge delight.
