That's a pretty good endorsement. You might remember Geoff, the thin Australian that who has also won three World Golf championships.

Everything about this driver screams playability. It is designed for elite players who want to work the ball, not pound the ball. The head is a petite 455cc, and the hosel is Titleist's patented "SureFit Tour" technology, which offers two different angles to adjust your loft and lie for the best fit.

There are some devices built in to give the playable driver a little pop. The face has an insert that increases the ball speed and weight as been moved lower for a profound deep center of gravity, which adds stability and a penetrating ball flight.

The club is long and forgiving, but not nearly as long and forgiving as those monster 460cc game-improving drivers that are out there. If you are looking for more distance and a driver that you can't slice, then move on from this.

However, if you are an aficionado of feel and workability, this is your driver. The impact feel is very soft with tremendous feedback. The look at address is very pleasing. It almost looks like you have a 3-wood in your hands. And the adjustable hosel makes it adaptable to every swing.

Titleist 990 Irons, Men’s Golf | Cavity Back w/ Steel Stiff Shaft http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-990-irons-mens-golf-cavity-back-w-steel-stiff-shaft/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-990-irons-mens-golf-cavity-back-w-steel-stiff-shaft/#comments Fri, 24 Jun 2011 16:36:35 +0000 Jess http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=4369 Titleist 990 Irons, Men's Golf It's embarrassing. It really is.

It's embarrassing to try a set of irons on a range and not like them. It's embarrassing to swing the clubs and duck hook a few. It's embarrassing to complain about how you can hit other irons better, even Titleist irons like the DTRs.

What is so embarrassing about this, you may ask?

It's embarrassing to come back home to write the review and read some specs on the clubs and discover that they were "designed with the better player in mind."

Ugh. That means the clubs that were professionally designed for someone good to use were very difficult for me to hit. That means that the high performance blade with a variable muscle back cavity are not necessarily "my cup of tea." That means that these clubs are for people who care about "workability" with their shots, and not just considered with "taking some time off work" to sneak off to the course and duff a few.

Maybe I would have had better luck with these clubs back when they were brand new in the early 2000s. Yeah, that's it. I would have gripped and ripped these things a country mile, but I'm older and need something more modern to help me with my game.

They are definitely worth the try -- especially if you're a golfer that has some natural talent and ability and may be looking for a very good set of used clubs.

Clubs designed for... (start my sarcastic whiny voice) -- "the better player in mind."

Titleist ZM Forged Irons | Men’s Blade Club Set 3-PW w/ Steel Shaft http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-zm-forged-irons-mens-blade-club-set-3-pw-w-steel-shaft/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-zm-forged-irons-mens-blade-club-set-3-pw-w-steel-shaft/#comments Tue, 14 Jun 2011 16:49:51 +0000 Jess http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=4325 I’m starting to really get ticked off at my Cobra Gravity Backs. I bring them to my local driving range and pro shop (where they often allow you to try out new or used sets of clubs in hopes you’ll buy something new).

I’m getting more and more tempted, because I can hit these Titleist irons farther than my Cobras. These ZM forged irons are really pretty sweet. They look sleek and shiny, and feel traditional enough and not strangely weighted or offset. They swing easy and have that common balanced center of gravity that makes this brand of irons so famous.

These practically spit in the face of the cavity back irons such as the Adams A3OS or even my gravity backs. Blades are usually designed for the more “skilled” golfer, but honestly, I was thumping these a pretty fair distance and with some accuracy.

Some. I said some.

These babies have a nice, stiff true temper steel shaft and really shine with a sexy, shiny almost-chrome look to them. These definitely will draw some attention when you show up to the course with them -- just make sure that you hit well with them to maintain the type of attention you want on the course.

Titleist DTR Irons Review | Men’s & Ladies Golf Clubs Set for Long Distance http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-dtr-irons-review-mens-ladies-golf-clubs-set-for-long-distance/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-dtr-irons-review-mens-ladies-golf-clubs-set-for-long-distance/#comments Mon, 13 Jun 2011 16:41:33 +0000 Jess http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=4322 Drive. Threaten the ball in the air. Repeat.

While this accurately describes an acronym of my golf game, thankfully it is not what the DTR stands for in the Titleist DTR irons. So just what exactly does it stand for?

"Distance Through Research."

Nice, Titleist. I dig. This company has always innovated in order to deliver nice irons. I have tried several sets (including a five and seven iron of the DTRs) and they do swing nicely. They don’t have a lot of “fluff” to them, and the heel and toe are nicely balanced to produce a nice big sweet spot.

When I hit the five iron, I had trouble producing a high shot -- though it always traveled the right distance. This is no fault of the club, I’m sure. The seven iron produced a consistent, nice high shot that traveled my normal “seven iron distance.”

87 yards. Just kidding; it was at least ten yards farther than that.

While these were produced way back in the early '90s, these used sets that you’ll find are a great find. They also keep a pretty good resale value if these are “stepping stone” irons for you, but are good enough to keep you swinging for years to come.

In addition, these irons are nice enough to cause even the smuggest members of your foursome to nod in approval at a good set of Titleist irons in your bag. Highly recommended.

I don't use long putters, but this one is extremely nice. I am honestly going to put a 34" version of this guy on my Father's Day wish list. Very, very nice putter. I'm not sure why, but I dig the milled face on putters nowadays, and I am a sucker for a mallet that lines up nicely. The Kombi really draws your eye and seems to hone in a great line to the cup easily. The red "T" shape lets you easily find the ball's center point and produce a nice backstroke and follow through.

Now we all know that Scotty Camerons are on the higher end of the price spectrum, but this one is worth checking out -- regardless of the size that you choose. There are three sweet-looking weights on the bottom of this putter too that seem to do a fantastic job of balancing the mallet and giving it a very solid feel while putting. The model I used had a nice offset shaft that allowed very good visibility at address, and the ball seemed to click off the head at a great roll without any problems. This is an extremely nice putter that would make any golfer proud to pull the cover off.

Titleist Mesh Golf Hat, Flexible | Mens Flex Fit Baseball Cap, Black or White OSFA http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-mesh-golf-hat-flexible-mens-flex-fit-baseball-cap-black-or-white-osfa/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-mesh-golf-hat-flexible-mens-flex-fit-baseball-cap-black-or-white-osfa/#comments Sun, 27 Mar 2011 16:26:45 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3770 Titleist Mesh Golf Hat, Flexible I wonder why nobody has invented a better golf hat yet. You ever notice we all just look like baseball players going to a wedding? We have nice leather shoes and a button-up collared shirt tucked into our neatly ironed slacks with a fancy belt. But from the neck up, we all just look like we are playing centerfield for the Yankees. We might as well have a big "chaw" in our cheek and be constantly adjusting ourselves. Seriously, can't we come up with our own identity? I suggest a fedora with a long brim in front.

Okay, enough nonsense. This Titleist mesh hat is one of the most popular ones I've seen around the golf course. Not only is it stylish, but the mesh hat breathes and keeps you cool. I like the flexible fit as well rather than the hats with the adjustable straps in back. Those hats end up leaving my bald head with a tan line that looks like I have a mouse door in the back of my skull.

This hat comes in white or black. (Wow, quite an array of colors to choose from.) And one size fits all. That is, unless you have a head the size of a watermelon, or a grape. If this is the case, I suggest you try a bandana.

Titleist AP1 Irons, Cavity Back | Mens Golf Clubs Set for High Handicap, Tungsten Weighted http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-ap1-irons-cavity-back-mens-golf-clubs-set-for-high-handicap-tungsten-weighted/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-ap1-irons-cavity-back-mens-golf-clubs-set-for-high-handicap-tungsten-weighted/#comments Wed, 23 Mar 2011 16:51:06 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3765 Titleist AP1 Irons, Cavity Back Titleist built these AP1s for you "aspiring golfers." That's a euphemism for: "You stink!" (I'm not in marketing, so I don't have to use words like "aspiring.") Consider me like your doctor -- I'm giving it to you straight so you can hit the ball straight. These Titleist AP1 Irons will help you terrible "sucky-wucky" golfers hit the ball better. Read on to find out how.

"AP" stands for Advanced Performance, and Titleist bravely started fresh with these irons when they came out in 2008. This set (and the AP2s) feature tungsten sole weights, flashy graphics on the back of the iron, and an elastomer cushion to improve feel.

As far as the flashy graphics go, I'm not a real big fan. I don't like the lines and the writing. I'd prefer a much cleaner look. However, when you set them at address, you don't see the back of the club anyway -- so it's not a deal-breaker for me. The tungsten weights help raise the MOI and make the cavity back club even more forgiving. They also add to the balance of the club. And my favorite thing about this club is the elastomer cushion. They really have improved the feel, especially mishits, without taking away too much feedback.

I would highly recommend these irons to any double digit handicapper. The oversized cavity back will help you get the ball airborne quickly. Not only that, I like these irons because they allow you to grow and get better. The irons aren't huge, clunky ping pong paddles like I see with a lot of other club makers in their "aspiring" game improvement market. As your doctor, I advise you to get these clubs, go to the range twice a week, and call me in the morning.

Titleist 910 D2 Golf Driver | Mens Adjustable Club w/ Alignment Aid http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-910-d2-golf-driver-mens-adjustable-club-w-alignment-aid/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-910-d2-golf-driver-mens-adjustable-club-w-alignment-aid/#comments Sun, 16 Jan 2011 18:59:54 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3579 Titleist 910 D2 Golf Driver Titleist is getting on the adjustable club bandwagon. And it's about time. The trend towards longer, straighter drives consists of tweaking your driver to each individual golf swing. I give you the 910 D2.

Titleist and I were on the same page for a sometime. We purists felt that it was bush league to adjust your driver to your swing. C’mon man – you should adjust your swing to the driver.

Boy, I couldn’t be any more wrong! I learned the hard way when one of my buddies showed up on the first tee with his TaylorMade R9 adjustable driver. He had adjusted it slightly closed. His big cut fade turned into a long running draw that went by everybody in the group. Ever since then I’ve been on the bandwagon.

I’m not sure what caused Titleist to hop on, but I’m guessing it had to do with all the business they were losing. It seems everywhere I look, there is a new adjustable driver coming out. And why not? For beginners, you can adjust the club closed to help prevent that slice. As you get better, simply adjust it back to neutral. For those of you worried about the left side of the golf course, adjust the driver slightly open and swing without any fear of the hooksies.

The 910 D2 driver's adjustable hosel allows you to change the drivers loft and lie to any 16 settings. This isn't much when you compare it to the variety you get from TaylorMade's 48 on the TaylorMade R11 or the 32 positions you get from the Nike Victory Red STR8-Fit Tour Driver. That being said, I haven’t run into too many situations where I needed 48 different face settings. I suppose the more you have the more flexible you can be, but I’m thinking 16 is plenty.

Nevertheless, leave it to Titleist to be conservative in their design. After all, like I said it's more about finding your individual settings then having a plethora of face angles. And at least Titleist is coming around. They were slow to get on the band wagon but you better believe the product they put out is going to be good.

The one thing I can say bad about Titleist drivers in general is the faces don’t seem to be as hot as most of the other brands. Perhaps this is because they are building them with workability in mind, rather than distance. That being said, many club makers like Callaway, Nike, and Taylormade have plenty of drivers that accomplish both.

I'm going to recommend this driver for lower handicappers, staying on par with most of the Titleist clubs I review. You good players are really going to like the alignment aid and using it to work the ball to your liking.

However, the club is a heavy 320 grams compared to many of the premier drivers from the other market leaders (e.g. Cleveland's XL 270 weighing in at 270 grams.) Perhaps they'll jump on that bandwagon next year.

Titleist 909 Hybrid Mens Golf Club, Stainless Steel | Diamana Blue Shaft w/ Lofts in 15, 17, 19, 21, 24 http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-909-hybrid-mens-golf-club-stainless-steel-diamana-blue-shaft-w-lofts-in-15-17-19-21-24/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/titleist-909-hybrid-mens-golf-club-stainless-steel-diamana-blue-shaft-w-lofts-in-15-17-19-21-24/#comments Fri, 30 Jul 2010 23:27:11 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2828 Titleist 909 Hybrid Mens Golf Club,This is a beautiful player's hybrid. Its stainless steel head is small and simple made with a Carpenter-steel insert. This insert is designed to increase ball speed. The center of gravity is offset and progressive to match the head size of each loft. The hybrid comes in 5 lofts: 15, 17, 19, 21, and 24.

Better golfers will really like the toned-down looks. At address, it looks beautiful, and the ball jumps off the hot face at impact. I would really like to put this hybrid in my bag because of how easy it is to work the ball.

I would recommend this hybrid for the lower handicappers who prefer more workability. However, having said that, a mid to high handicapper would still appreciate how hot the face is and how far the ball flies, but it's certainly not as forgiving as some of the more game-improving hybrids out there.

For a club designed more for forgiveness, I like the Cobra Baffler Rail. This hybrid has a dual-rail sole designed to get through the rough easier and pick the ball out of any lie.

It pains me to write this review on this sharp-looking Yankees baseball cap. The thing about the Yankees is: you either love them or hate them. There is no in between. And suffice to say, I'm not buying the hat. But you certainly can. Actually, you can get any sports team you want. If it were me, I'd get the World Champion (soon to be) Colorado Rockies.

This Titleist hat is a one-size-fits-all baseball style cap. It is a breathable, 100-percent cotton. The NY is embroidered big and bold on the right side of the cap. The Titleist in 3D is embroidered on the front. And in the back is a tuck-away adjustable strap that also has Titleist embroidered on it. Finally, it's blue so it should match your pin stripe Yankees jersey.
