These TW904s are a great buy.  That is, if you’d rather buy golf clubs than go on a cruise around the world.  But what the heck -- maybe you can afford both.  (Incidentally, if you can afford both, I’m available for golf lessons during your cruise.)

These TW904 irons are designed for you better millionaires  -- ahem -- I mean, golfers.  This is because they are built with a flow capacity by number.  The cavity is designed with a different thickness distribution depending on the number.  The thicker point of impact makes the ball fly higher and less affected by wind.

However, they still have a big, forgiving club face with a cavity back design.  The face is milled, and the shafts are hand-crafted.  This shaft has a rating of 2 (out of 5), which is the measure of the grade of carbon in the shaft.  The higher the carbon quality means less rubber content, and thus the quicker and more consistent the shaft rebounds on your downswing.  This helps deliver more energy where you want it -- into the golf ball.

All kidding aside, Honma Beres is a well-established Japanese club maker whose clients include Jack Nicholson, Donald Trump, and Danny DeVito.  Grab these irons and head to the first tee.  They might need a fourth.

Honma Beres Driver TW914 | Japanese Golf Club Handmade Graphite Shaft, Heavy Tungsten Weights http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-beres-driver-tw914-japanese-golf-club-handmade-graphite-shaft-heavy-tungsten-weights/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-beres-driver-tw914-japanese-golf-club-handmade-graphite-shaft-heavy-tungsten-weights/#comments Sat, 19 Feb 2011 18:41:37 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3664 Honma Beres Driver TW914

I like this TW914 the best of all the Honma drivers that I’ve reviewed.  It more closely resembles the golf clubs that I’ve seen on the PGA Tour.  I really the black clubhead, and the sound it makes at impact is “Tour Quality.”

It is designed for players with fast swing speeds, but I think all levels of golfers will benefit.  One reason is because they raised the height of the toe and heel near the face.  This gives you a bigger sweet spot and an optimized trajectory.

Tungsten weights have been added to the sole to raise the MOI and lower the CG.  Tungsten is twice as heavy as steel.  This reminds me of the Tour Edge Exotics XCG-3 Driver that also uses tungsten for the same purpose.  (Incidentally, you can buy five XCG-3 drivers for what this driver costs.)

It is the shaft that sets Honma Beres clubs apart.  They are very unique because they are hand-crafted.  They can hold their own with all the top-of-the-line shafts.  This driver has a star rating of 2 (out of 5).  The rating measures the percentage of carbon particles in the shaft vs. the percentage of rubber.  More carbon provides for a quicker rebound during your swing with more consistency.  This in turn will transfer more energy to your golf ball.

Honma Beres Mallet Putter | Milled Handmade Gold Professional Club PP-002 http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-5-star-golf-club-gold-handmade-beres-milled-mallet-putter-professional-pp-002-japan/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-5-star-golf-club-gold-handmade-beres-milled-mallet-putter-professional-pp-002-japan/#comments Thu, 17 Feb 2011 18:38:15 +0000 Sharon http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3659

What?  You’ve never seen a putter worth $5,000?  Well, have you ever seen one that was blessed by the Dali Lama?  I haven’t, either.  But I’m thinking it should be, at least before I take out a mortgage on my house to buy it.

I’m guessing that you will be seeing more and more of the Honma brand over here in the U.S.  Already in Japan, it is very popular.  Rich businessmen use these clubs as gifts and incentives for their employees.  And lately, Honma has moved away from their focus on making luxurious ornaments for the rich and famous and concentrated on building higher performance equipment.

The PP on this putter stands for Professional Player series, and it is their top-of-the-line model with a great combination of feel and performance.  It is forged, milled steel that has a laser-carved 304 stainless steel insert.

The putter is more than just a trophy.  I would certainly love putting with it.  I like the look of the mallet, which would be easy to line up with the alignment aid and very forgiving on slightly off-center hits.  Just don’t go breaking it over your knee in anger when you miss that 3-foot putt.

Honma Elite Japanese Golf Iron Set, 6-11 | Beres MG703 Handmade Club & Shaft http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-elite-japanese-golf-iron-set-6-11-beres-mg703-handmade-club-shaft/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-elite-japanese-golf-iron-set-6-11-beres-mg703-handmade-club-shaft/#comments Wed, 09 Feb 2011 18:24:51 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3653 Honma Elite Japanese Golf Iron Set,

Nope, it’s not a typo -- these irons are a little “spendy.”  Honma is an elite Japanese golf company that has been around for 50 years.  In Japan, rich businessmen use Honma golf clubs as bonuses for their employees.  The company is in Yamagata, Tokyo. They say that 150 processes performed by 50 skilled craftsmen go into making one of these golf clubs.  Wow, that’s almost as extensive as the work that’s gone into creating Joan River’s face...

These MG703 irons have an active sole.  That is, the portion of the sole that lands on the ball has been made smaller to lessen resistance on contact.  Weight has been shifted to the bottom of the sole, giving it a lower center of gravity, which gives the ball a higher trajectory and farther carry.

The sweet spot is my favorite part, though.  Honma has used a revolutionary design that makes the sweet spot 57% larger than their previous model.  They achieve this using a hyper cross face design.

I recommend these irons to anybody that has the money to throw down on some cutting-edge technology coming from an established golf company in Japan.

Honma Men’s Driver MG713 Beres Japan | 4 Star Golf Club Played By Celebrities Donald Trump, Jack Nicholson http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-mens-driver-mg713-beres-japan-4-star-golf-club-played-by-celebrities-donald-trump-jack-nicholson/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-mens-driver-mg713-beres-japan-4-star-golf-club-played-by-celebrities-donald-trump-jack-nicholson/#comments Mon, 07 Feb 2011 18:18:58 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3650 Honma Men's Driver MG713 Beres Japan

I’ve read that Honma drivers can add up to 50 yards to my tee shot.  WOW!  I also hear that Jack Nicholson, Roger Clemens, and Donald Trump play these sticks.  Guess I’m going to have to try ‘em.  Anybody have Jack’s number?

Don’t be surprised if you haven’t heard of this driver that cost more than my first car.  Honma marketing is almost nil in the U.S. But the Japanese sure know about this bellwether company that has been around for many years.  According to Travel & Leisure magazine, the Japanese appreciate Honma golf clubs in the same way they admire a well-manicured Bonsai tree.

One of the biggest attractions is the shaft.  The shafts are handmade.  When it comes to performance, these shafts are among the best on the market.  The star grades (from 2 to 5) measure the quality of carbon used in each shaft.  Higher grade carbon contains more glass than rubber.  This allows the shaft to bounce back quicker to its original form.  Thus, you lose less built-up energy, and guess where that energy ends up?  You got it --  it’s delivered to the back of your golf ball.

This MG713 has a 4-star rating.  That’s 4 out of 5 for those of you that are skimming through this and missed it the first time.  The club has the highest MOI possible and the largest top surface face of all of Honma’s clubs.  Six bazooka ribs help transfer more energy to the ball, and there are low ridges on the shallow face to make the trajectory of the ball fly higher.

Honma Beres MG710 460cc Driver Review | Japanese Distance Golf Club http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-beres-mg710-460cc-review-video-best-distance-golf-club-japanese-driver/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/honma-beres-mg710-460cc-review-video-best-distance-golf-club-japanese-driver/#comments Sat, 05 Feb 2011 18:12:23 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=3647 Honma Beres MG710 460cc Review & Video

"May I have the password, please?  If you want to come in here, you are going to need three forms of I.D. and have at least two notarized signatures from accredited Japanese dignitaries."

You have wandered into Zipgolfer.com’s VIP room, and this driver that you are gawking at is the Rolls Royce of drivers.  This is one of the priciest drivers you have ever seen, handmade by people that you have never heard of.   However, this MG710 is cheap compared to some of the woods and irons they make that are constructed with platinum and gold.

Honma, a Japanese company that has been around forever and previously solicited by mainly wealthy Japanese folks and celebrities, has started to get a lot of attention with the introduction of their Beres stock.  This line contains less flair and more focus on performance.

This Homna MG710 driver is designed for amateurs with average swing speeds (88mph to 105mph.)  The huge 460cc contains bazooka ribs and a shallow, wide head.  The MOI is completely maxed out on this marvel of performance.

This driver will certainly be a conversation piece, not only for its uniqueness but also because of the huge drives you will be ripping. Golftoimpress.com did a performance test and the MG710 tied for first place for Best Max Distance.

“The pro tester pointed out that the driver produced very high ball speeds resulting from the dimple cold forged DAT Titanium face.”
