Golf Rain Suits | Packable Gear in Breathable Gore-Tex

rain suits

A rain suit can be a really handy thing to keep in your golf bag.  Weather is a constantly-changing phenomenon, and depending on what part of the country you live in, it may change at the drop of a hat. Of course, since you’re an avid golf fan, you don’t want to be “the wuss” among your golf buddies just because your clothes are getting a bit wet from a sudden downpour of rain.

Rain Suits: To Buy Or Not To Buy

The first question to ask yourself is: do you play golf in a lot of harsh weather conditions?  The added challenge can be quite an adrenaline boost, but all that rain, snow, and wind can make it pretty hard to concentrate on the perfect golf swing. If so, you’ll benefit a lot from investing in a quality rain suit. Or, if you just like the thought of always having a back-up plan, you can look for a compact rain suit that stows away discreetly in your golf bag for whenever you’d need to use it.

Price Differences and Key Features To Look For

Most golfing rain suits fall in the same price range — about $50 MSRP, give or take a few bucks. A higher price usually means that the suit is made from high-quality waterproof and weatherproof materials, like Gore-Tex. Concerning rain suits that feature a low-budget price point, be sure to check the description and look out for words like “water-resistant.”  This kind of suit would be all right for a light drizzle, but it won’t hold up in heavy rain conditions.

A key feature that you’ll want in a rain suit is ventilation. The whole point of wearing a rain suit in the first place is to keep you dry both inside and out. Quality vented suits keep the rain from getting into your suit and let perspiration escape just as easily.

Above all, make sure that the rain suit you choose won’t hinder your golf swing. Try it on before you commit to buying it, or order it from an online retailer with a great return policy. Also, since the suits come in top-and-bottom pairs, make sure both the pants and jacket fit with equal comfort. Otherwise, you’d be better off buying each piece separately.

Quality Rain Suits To Consider

One of the best golf rain suits out there is the Frogg Toggs Classic Pro Action suit. Frogg Toggs is a company known for making lots of outdoor gear, but they credit this rain suit as their claim to fame. The materials in the suit are extremely lightweight, compact, and 100% waterproof. The suit is outfitted with nylon zippers and nickel-plated snaps, which means it’s rust-proof as well. And like most golfing suits, it includes quite a few pockets for storing extra balls, tees, scorecards, and other accessories.

If you’d rather look into getting a quality rain jacket separately, then take a look at the Marmot Waterproof Rain Coat instead. It’s a compact rain jacket, fully waterproof with seams that are 100% sealed off. It has optional ventilation with zippers in the armpits. The arms also have a patented Angel-Wing Movement feature, allowing for a wide range of motion without adding a ton of extra bulky material to the jacket.
