It's simple: Tee your golf ball up higher. To get the best advantage with our huge modern-day drivers, you've got to get the ball up off of the ground.

This is a pet peeve that I have with my father, a 30+ handicapper, when we go out and play a round. If he pops up one drive (hitting it higher in the air than intended), then he immediately starts teeing the ball lower and lower. This is not good, because it will encourage you to start swinging down on the ball, and your swing plane will become steeper. This is an absolute no-no with your driver and will lead to very inconsistent, short drives.

For the best results, you want to hit your driver on the upswing. This is why we play it off our left heel and tee the ball up high. This will encourage you to have a flatter swing plane (or more shallow, swinging around your body).

A good rule of thumb is: After setting your driver directly behind your golf ball at address, the top of your driver-face should bisect the ball in the middle or at the equator of the golf ball. It's okay if you go even higher, but not lower!

Try it on the driving range to get used to swinging more around your body before you take it out on the golf course. Make sure you have a set of these long tees or something like them, because those short standard tees are not going to work.

Distance Golf Tees by Zero Friction | PGA Performance, Set of 50 http://www.zipgolfer.com/distance-golf-tees-by-zero-friction-pga-performance-set-of-50/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/distance-golf-tees-by-zero-friction-pga-performance-set-of-50/#comments Fri, 14 May 2010 00:08:28 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2425 Distance Golf Tees by Zero Friction These Zero Friction Performance golf tees are designed to give you more distance because there is less resistance than you encounter using a traditional tee. This tee has 3 prongs which hold the ball up.

I bet you didn't know that those old traditional tees that you've been using for years were robbing you of precious distance. I figured this out a long time ago --that is why I don't use a tee at all. Instead, I get my buddy Brian to lie on the ground with my Titleist Pro V1x in his mouth. When I take a swing, he spits the ball up into the air and I smack the BAJEEPERS out of it. I find that I get at least five extra yards out this. Of course, I only get the extra yardage when I actually make contact with the ball and don't catch poor Brian in the chin. (Then the ball doesn't go very far at all.)

These Zero Friction tees are pretty inexpensive and, all kidding aside, you may get a few extra yards with them. I prefer the Epoch tees, which are actually used on the PGA Tour.

However, I am a bit of a purist and a skeptic; thus, I say stick with your old tees, worry less about the few extra yards you will get, and work on your short game.

Pixma Magnetic Golf Tee w/ Anchor Peg | Plastic Zero Friction Unbreakable http://www.zipgolfer.com/pixma-magnetic-golf-tee-w-anchor-peg-plastic-zero-friction-unbreakable/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/pixma-magnetic-golf-tee-w-anchor-peg-plastic-zero-friction-unbreakable/#comments Wed, 12 May 2010 23:14:57 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2420 Pixma Magnetic Golf Tee w/ Anchor Peg This permanent golf tee is magnetic. I like the concept, but when I put it in my pocket, all of my darn ball markers keep sticking to it!

I must give this product credit because it's the first permanent tee that I reviewed where they actually just sell you one tee. I keep asking the question, "If you can't break, it then why do I have to buy so many.?" Of course, the obvious answer is because you lose it when you hit it. But the ingenious inventors of this product have designed an anchor for the tee, thus don't you worry about it taking off after your ball.

Forget the anchor -- why don't they just make the string long enough to tie to your golf shoe? Then you don't have to worry about fishing around for it in your pocket. (I know -- I'm brilliant.)

This product is goofy. I would only recommend it for novelty purposes. I will admit it makes a good conversation piece, but most of the conversation will be from your golf buddies making fun of you.

If you are looking for a permanent tee because you want to save the planet or you're just tired of carrying around 20 tees in your pocket, check out the Flex Tee. This tee is lightweight so it doesn't fly that far and also gives you a consistent tee height every time.

PGA Epoch Golf Ball Tees, White Evolve | Driver Long Distance, Set of 50 http://www.zipgolfer.com/pga-epoch-golf-ball-tees-white-evolve-driver-long-distance-set-of-50/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/pga-epoch-golf-ball-tees-white-evolve-driver-long-distance-set-of-50/#comments Tue, 11 May 2010 23:01:21 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2417 PGA Epoch Golf Ball Tees, White Evolve I usually make fun of these gimmicky tees, but this one is legit. I never believe the ads, and I always do the research -- and this one holds up. This Epoch tee was introduced on the PGA tour in 2004, and since then has accumulated 125 wins on tour. What's more is that Evolve Golf, the makers of Epoch, does not pay any player to use the product.

The way it works: The Epoch tee has 93% less surface contact with the ball than your traditional wood tee. The tee comes into contact with only the exoskeleton of the ball. This reduces resistance and deflection that can come from wood tees. The company says your drives "will be 3 to 7 yards longer and 4 to 9 yards straighter than wood tees."

Furthermore, these tees last longer than the traditional tees -- 3 times longer! Thus, you can feel good about your golf game as it has just become greener. Look at you, saving the planet one tee at a time.

The tees aren't that pricey either. I would recommend these tees to all levels of golfers.

ProActive Golf Tees, Flexible Pronged | Long Distance, More Yards http://www.zipgolfer.com/proactive-golf-tees-flexible-pronged-long-distance-more-yards/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/proactive-golf-tees-flexible-pronged-long-distance-more-yards/#comments Mon, 10 May 2010 22:53:57 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2414 ProActive Golf Tees, Flexible Pronged No, this is not a dart for your blow gun! This is a golf tee. This revolutionary design is intended to reduce resistance, thus giving you more distance. This tee is "the only tee proven in both robotic and field tests to improve distance." Wow, so a robot likes these tees better than the traditional wood tees.

Maybe he should write this review…

"I am Golf-Bot. I hit ball on wood tee. Ball go far. I hit ball on ProActive Sport Golf Tee. Ball go farther than John Daly on moon. Get it? Golf-Bot tell joke. Ha Ha Ha."

See it's not that easy, Golf-Bot. (My job is safe for now.)

These tees are gimmicky. I'm not saying they won't give you a few more yards of distance, but it's negotiable, and you should be more concerned with your short game anyway.

A product I do like is the Epoch Tee. This tee isn't so crazy-looking and is actually used on the PGA Tour.

Another alternative to those traditional tees, I do like the Flex Tee. It's a bit soft, and you have to put it into the ground without the ball, but it doesn't fly very far (which makes it easier to find).

PGA European Tour Golf Tees | Wood Orange Unbreakable http://www.zipgolfer.com/pga-european-tour-golf-tees-wood-orange-unbreakable/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/pga-european-tour-golf-tees-wood-orange-unbreakable/#comments Sun, 09 May 2010 22:42:52 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2411 PGA European Tour Golf Tees These tees are completely unbreakable! Holy cow! If only the back bumper of my truck were made out this stuff, I could've saved a lot of money in insurance.

These bad boys are big on the European tour. They are made in Germany. They look like wood, they smell like wood -- they even taste like wood!

I am certain that this will be the absolute last tee you will every buy. Hang on, let me see, how much it is to buy just one? Breaking News… This just in: You can't buy just one. You have to buy ten. Why do I have to buy ten of the last tee I will ever buy?

I actually know the answer to this. These tees fly a long way (and they also bend). You better put some type of radar detector on these things, because at $33 a set, you might find yourself (along with your playing partners) spending more time looking for your tee than your golf ball.

I'm not a big fan of these tees, but I do like Epoch tees. These are big on the PGA Tour and will actually give you more distance with your driver.

Another alternative to the traditional tees, I like these Flex Tees. The tees are lighter than your typical tee, and thus don't fly as far so you can find them.

Flex Golf Ball Tee | Flexible w/ Long Driver, Mid, Short Length http://www.zipgolfer.com/flex-golf-ball-tee-flexible-w-long-driver-mid-short-length/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/flex-golf-ball-tee-flexible-w-long-driver-mid-short-length/#comments Sat, 08 May 2010 22:35:45 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2408 Flex Golf Ball Tee Quick question: If this is the "last tee I will ever buy," why does this set come with eight tees? Hmmm.

Reminds me of my father's favorite joke: A guy walking on the beach finds a bottle, picks it up, and a genie pops out granting him three wishes. The man asks for a beer. "POOF!" In his hand appears a large frosty mug full of his favorite malty beverage. He promptly drinks it down and the beer immediately refills itself. Again he pounds it down, and again it refills. The genie, growing impatient, demands: "Sir, you still have two more wishes."

The man replies, "(Hiccup)… I'll take two more of these!"

These tees actually are a pretty good invention, and the best thing about them (besides that they don't break) is they do give you a consistent ball height each time. The set comes with three different color-coded sizes. The red tees are the longest for your driver. The orange are the next size down, and the yellow is the shortest.

I like these better than the Brush-t tees (which also give you the consistent tee height). These Flex tees don't go as far when you hit them and thus are easier to hang on too.

One word of warning: the tees can't be pushed into the ground with the ball on it like your traditional tees, and it's spongy and soft and not easy to place in hard ground. Thus, don't buy these in the wintertime when the ground is frozen.

Golf Tee Set from Brush-t, Multicolored | Flexible for Swing Training http://www.zipgolfer.com/golf-tee-set-from-brush-t-multicolored-flexible-for-swing-training/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/golf-tee-set-from-brush-t-multicolored-flexible-for-swing-training/#comments Fri, 07 May 2010 22:19:38 +0000 Robert http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=2405 Golf Tee Set from Brush-t Independent tests prove that you will get 3 to 7 yards more distance using these tees. This could be a good thing -- unless you slice it, and those extra seven yards take your ball into a creek. (True golfers can find the negative in everything.)

The idea behind these brush tees is that the bristles provide less drag then your traditional tees. "The Brush-t reduces resistance ordinarily encountered at the point of impact, and restores that stolen velocity…" Wow. Those old tees have been stealing from us all this time, right under our noses!

I'm not a big fan of this product. It's a bit gimmicky, and the tees are expensive. One positive thing that I will admit is the Brush-t will give you a consistent tee height, and they will last a long time. However, I like the Flex Tee better. It is a different kind of permanent tee that will give you the same consistent tee height, but without the bristles. I like it because it is lighter and doesn't travel as far when you hit it, and thus you can find it easier.

The golf towel says, "I couldn't find anything else and had five minutes. Sorry."
The exploding golf ball says, "I still find this joke funny even though it never works."
The Maxfli Noodle golf balls say, "I do care. I just went for what was on sale."

And of course, the Toss Designs Golf Flask Gift Set says, "You look like a drunk golfer."

For the golfer who likes to sneak the hard stuff out on the course, this little gift set comes with a flask, four golf tees if you can balance the ball, two ball markers if you make it to the green, a ball mark fixer if you can hit it straight enough to stick one, and a funnel to get all the spirits into the small opening without spilling it everywhere.

It comes in black for easy concealment, green to spot easily when seeing double, and pink for the lady who likes to be tipsy by hole #4. And the price is normal for this style and size of flask.

Just make sure you know who you are buying this for -- remember, certain golf gifts speak louder than others.

Intech Golf Tees | Natural Wood, White | 500 Pack 2 3/4 Inch http://www.zipgolfer.com/intech-golf-tees-natural-wood-white-500-pack-2-34-inch/ http://www.zipgolfer.com/intech-golf-tees-natural-wood-white-500-pack-2-34-inch/#comments Mon, 03 Aug 2009 06:33:23 +0000 andrew http://www.zipgolfer.com/?p=167 Intech Golf Tees I used to be a tee-scrounger. You know, the guy who celebrates at the tee box when he finds someone else's discarded (yet fully functional) tee. Not sure what I was thinking, but I guess I hadn't heard that you can find tees for about two cents apiece. But then, out of the blue, the kids gave me a bag of five hundred in my stocking last holiday season.

Tee scrounger no more, now I'm the guy breaking out a new one without a care in the world. And it feels great! Crack one in half? No problem. Lose one in the cabbage? Doesn't bother me a bit. Lucky tee no longer so lucky? Move on.

The Intech bag featured here contains five hundred tees, each 2.75 inches long. Those are long enough for use with the largest of the oversized drivers. I don't care much about the color, but in this case they're an unpainted, natural wood color. They also come in white. Though not "indestructible," they are reasonably strong. And at just under ten bucks for a ton of tees, they're quite a value.

If you're looking for the sturdiest tees, and are willing to spend a bit more, check out the "Unbreakable Golf Tees" featured elsewhere. But the Intech tees certainly seem to fill a sweet spot of value, size, and sturdiness.

Now if only the kids would get me a case of my favorite golf balls...
