Matt Kucher put Aero-Tech on the map when he started playing their shafts in 2008. He's the only PGA Tour player that plays graphite shafts in his irons. As the story goes, he was frustrated with his game when he noticed his dad playing these steel fiber shafts. He gave them a try and really liked them. Matt won twice since then (in 2009 and 2010) and posted 24 top tens, finishing #1 on the money list in 2010. That's not a bad endorsement.
Good players tend to shy away from graphite irons because of lack of control and feel. The old dig on graphite is that they aren't as precise as steel, and they have less feedback. Aero-Tech is changing all that with their steel fiber shafts that have the same stability of steel. You get the best of both worlds: the lightweight vibration dampening of graphite with the solid feel of steel.
The biggest drawback is the price. For the luxury of swinging this Cadillac, you are paying a premium. The shafts are about twice the price of the standard True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shafts. Unfortunately, we don't all have Matt Kucher's wallet.
