I started getting excited to see Washington National on the drive up. The drive takes you on a few switchbacks through the woods. After climbing a couple hills, follow the signs and you pull into an incredible golf facility.
This is the home of the Washington Huskies golf teams, both men's and women's. And trust me, you won't ever forget that. The school's colors and that distinct purple "W" is everywhere.
The course has pretty big fairways and greens, but it is still very challenging. It's built in the hills, and you don't get too many straight forward flat lies. The course doesn't seem too hard at first, and I made pars pretty easily, but then it starts to get more bite as you go on. The final five holes are a really good test of golf.
My favorite thing about the course, besides the beautiful setting and the immaculate conditions, is the huge practice facility. You literally have to take a cart to the driving range, which has a stadium feel to it. The range is framed by the hills and the trees with many different colored flags to aim at. There is also a practice bunker to perfect those sand shots.
