The hybrid has a parabolic leading edge. This also helps the turf interaction as the beveled edge helps you hit the small ball before the big ball (earth).

I like this hybrid because it is forgiving and easy to hit out of any lie. It has a high launch and a high ball flight with a soft one-hop-and-stop landing.

This hybrid comes in 5 lofts: 15.9, 18, 20.5, 23, and 26 degrees. And the stock shaft is an Ultralite Diamana Red shaft.

I would recommend this hybrid to the mid to high handicappers. You will appreciate the forgiving clubface and the increased swing speeds.

If you want a hybrid that is a little more controllable and something that you can shape your shots with, I recommend the Titleist 909 H Hybrid and the Mizuno MP CLK Hybrid.

The first thing that jumps out at you is the dual rail sole. This is designed to get the club moving through the turf with the smallest amount of turf drag regardless of the lie. The face is very hot. It is made with a thin insert to improve ball speed. And the club comes standard with a very light (65 gram) Fujikura Motore shaft which will increase your clubhead speed.

I really like this club, especially for mid to high handicappers. The club is very easy to swing, very forgiving, and the ball jumps off of the face. The rails will help you pick the ball out of the rough.

Imagine you are a couple hundred yards out and sitting in some deep rough. Most of you weekend warriors are going to punch back out into the fairway as opposed to going at it with a 3-iron. With this club in your arsenal, you will be surprised how easy it is to get the ball out of the rough and flying high.

The club comes in 5 lofts. My favorite thing about the club is you can get it in stronger-than-average lofts. Go with the 25 degree or 28 degree.

With TaylorMade's Flight Control Technology (FCT), you can change the head to eight different positions. FCT will give you up to 40 yards of right/left variance ranging from 2 degrees closed to 2 degrees open and the lie from 1 degree upright to 1 degree flat. Plus, you have movable weights that help you refine your direction and feel.

I really like this driver, and unlike other drivers that will be obsolete in a few years, I think this one will hold its own for many years to come. This is especially true for you higher handicappers that can adjust the face closed to correct your slice, and as your swing improves, simply move it back to neutral. For you lower handicappers, you may find an advantage to adjusting the driver open to eliminate that fear of going left.

That being said, I would point the better golfers to the R9 TP Driver. The TP Driver has a smaller 430cc head. It isn't as long as this big monster, but the more traditional size and shape is more playable. In addition, the FCT in the TP Driver gives you 75 yards of right/left variance with 3 degrees of loft.

The FT-iZ Hybrid is a triangular head with a stainless steel body. Not only does the triangular shape head raise the MOI in the hybrid, but it also reduces drag for faster swing speeds. The perimeter of the club head has metal injection-molded weights. This further raises the MOI and makes this perhaps the most stable hybrid on the market.

The hybrid has Callaway's VFT. This stands for Variable Face Technology. This gives the face faster balls speeds with a sweet spot that covers the entire club face. And finally, the hosel is offset, giving the higher handicapper more control.

I recommend this hybrid for all golfers, especially the mid to high handicappers who are looking for a very forgiving hybrid to add to their bag that will give them tremendous confidence from any lie.

This hybrid leans more toward the traditional with a shape that looks more like a metal wood than an iron. It has a low and deep center of gravity. It gets this using something called TOS. That is its wide-bodied triangle of stability. In addition, the sole is contoured for more versatility.

I recommend this club for mid to high handicappers. It is a very easy club to hit. With the low center of gravity, the golf ball gets up quickly and flies very high, landing softly.

It comes in six different lofts: 17, 19, 21, 25, 30, and 35. I would recommend the stronger lofts for those of you struggling with getting the ball airborne. Try the 30 or 35 degree lofts.

Orlimar is now owned by King Par, a value club company. This set of men's hybrids is priced pretty reasonably. I would recommend them for beginners and seniors for improving their game and making it more enjoyable. They are very forgiving and will help you get the ball airborne.

However, for a little bit more money, I would highly recommend the Adams Idea A7 Hybrid Set. Adams, like Orlimar, is a pioneer in their own right, launching the Tight Lies fairway woods in the mid '90s. These clubs have a superior feel and design and will give beginners some room to improve without having to go buy a brand new set of golf clubs in six months.

One thing I will give it: the club is stable. If you combine the large square shape with an extreme perimeter weighting, then you get a club that won't twist even if you put it in a blender. (I'm not really sure what that means, but it sounds funny.)

In addition to the stable clubhead, it has a very hot face due to the 455 stainless steel face.

I recommend this hybrid to mid to high handicappers that are looking for a forgiving golf club that will hit the ball long and far from any lie.

If you are looking for a hybrid that is a little more controllable and not so big, I recommend the Titleist 909 H Hybrid and the Mizuno MP CLK Hybrid.

One thing you should know before I go any further is that Nick is a chronic practice addict. He'd much rather tinker with his game and hit a hundred practice shots than go out and play a round of golf. The North Course suits him well because it's a bare-bones look and standard tees and greens -- nothing more. To me, it's more like a driving range that you can putt on than an actual golf course. Or rather a putt-putt course that you can chip on. Most holes are around 80 yards. There is only one hole that is longer than a hundred yards. This is a great place to bring young children or beginners. The best part is the course is $5.

On the other hand, the South Course has a lot more character. And by character, I mean trees and water. It has more of the feel of playing a regulation course -- just shorter. You have to play it straight, and you can't jump around to different holes and practice different shots like you can on the North Course. This course costs $9.

For a tough, regulation 18-hole course, check out the Gold Course. And for a fun, regulation 9-hole course, try the Blue Course.

The E7 is the next generation of the E7+, only the E7 seems even harder to me. These balls are multilayer balls that go long and straight. The ball is less affected by wind or side spin from your driver. The cover is a very durable surlyn. This is quite a bit harder then urethane, which is used in the better feeling balls. However, it is very long and durable.

I recommend these balls for higher handicappers that are looking for a good distance ball that will have a piercing trajectory and run like crazy when it hits the ground. For a little softer feel, buy the older E7+ ball. To me, it's not as "clicky" but still just as long.

If you want a better feel ball for the money, you can get the Bridgestone E5 (with the aforementioned softer urethane cover) for almost the same price as these E7s.

And if you are looking for something even higher end, the Bridgestone B330 and B330-S are Bridgestone's premier tour balls.

A cart is a good idea even if you are trying to shoot a good score because the course is very hilly. It is located about twenty minutes outside of Portland in the foothills. It's very scenic playing amongst beautiful fir trees and dramatic elevation changes.

Number one is a great starting hole: a dogleg right par 5 with an elevated tee hitting down into a valley. Tee it up high and swing for the fences because there really isn't too much trouble down there, and a good drive will give you an attempt to reach the green in two.

I recommend this golf course for everybody, especially the higher handicappers looking for a challenging course but not a lot of pressure from snooty golfers pushing you along.

After your round, there is a really cool McMenamins Pub right up the road in the hills. It's called McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. And you better Google-Map it before you leave, because it's very hard to find.
