If Sherlock Holmes were a golfer, I think after much inspection, he'd appreciate this Ogio Wire Stand Bag. The bag is Ogio's lightest stand bag and is built for comfort. You have a choice of carrying this bag like a tour caddy, over one shoulder with one strap, or convert in easily into two backpack style straps.

It has a 7" Woode top for organizing all of your clubs and keeping them from banging together, and it has many pockets for all your balls, tees, and a rain suit.

I like how the pockets are all fleece-lined, and my favorite thing (besides the Sherlock Plaid) is the easily accessible water bottle holder. I can get to it even with the bag on my back.

If the Sherlock Plaid is not to your liking, the bag also comes in red, stealth, and camo. The camo is pretty wild too, I reckon.

Thus, if you don't care what name is on your bag, get this Sun Mountain Stand Bag and save some "moolah." The reason I bought the bag is because it is so light. You won't find a bag any lighter.

Another thing I like about the bag is the bag stand deploys very easily. I've had bags in the past that you had to play with it and push down in a certain spot to get the legs to deploy. I also like the position of the beer holder (uhh, I mean water bottle holder). It is very accessible while the bag is on your back.

The only thing I would caution you about this bag is to be careful when jamming clothes into the large side pocket. I've overfilled it a few times, then forced the zipper shut -- only to have the zipper split open while I was walking.

For a cool bag that will hold everything and includes an insulated cooler pouch, check out the Sun Mountain 2009 SCB Speed Cart Bag. Of course, you aren't going to want to carry this one -- it's to throw on a push cart or electric cart.

The Ping 2009 Backpack has a side-entry, padded laptop compartment and a fold down organizer pocket. It's got a cool magnetic key ring on the inside pocket, and the zippers are all oversized and durable.

I like the velour-line sunglass pocket the best. I am always losing my sunglasses, and this pocket makes it convenient to throw them in and pull them out.

On the downside, I don't like the style and look as much as the Club Backpack by Nike. In addition, I like how Nike has the small accessory pocket on top instead of on the bottom. For one, it's easier to access and pull my car keys and cell phone out of the top, and second, I can throw my iPod in the top while I'm wearing the backpack and easily run the head phones up to my "melon" to listen.

Although, I do like the fancy embroidered Ping logo. With golf becoming a fashion statement, I wonder where it will end… I can't wait to go to a wedding wearing a formal Ping Tuxedo.

My brother used to wear one all the time. It was basically a belt with a purse attached to it that you snapped on around your waste. No need to spend the extra money to have the word "DORK!" embroidered on it -- it goes without saying.

Thank goodness our "purses" are much cooler now, and bigger as well (with all the stuff we feel the need to lug around with us).

This Nike Club Backpack is pretty nifty. It's has a padded laptop compartment and a separate pocket for your cord. In addition, it has a fur-lined pocket to hold your iPod with a cord port. It's very comfortable, since they've padded the back panel and shoulder straps.

I like the front pocket at the top of the backpack the best because I can throw my cell phone in there or my car keys and get to them pretty easy.

The only think I might add is something golf-related -- perhaps a custom pocket designed to hold a sleeve of balls, or maybe a few "coin slots" to attach a few ball markers or a green tool. C'mon, we golf geeks want to advertise that we are golfers.

On the other hand, I shouldn't complain. We've come a long way from those ugly fanny packs. If only I could get my brother to quit wearing his.

My old golf bag, that is. Although, my golf buddy Larry thought the lake at #17 wasn't necessarily the most appropriate spot. Larry is always waxing philosophical with this "right time and right place" nonsense. What could be a better place than the lake guarding the green at Indian Ball Eater Ridge, and what better time then after I just dunked my approach shot leading to my third double bogey of the day?

All kidding aside though, I've got to tell you about the newest addition to my golf arsenal. I finally threw out that old cloth bag and bought a Callaway Warbird Golf Bag. This bag is very lightweight. Just relieving the strain on my back has taken strokes off of my game. It weighs just over 8 lbs. and has comfortable padded arm straps that you put on like a backpack. It stands upright on a very solid base.

Callaway has a great design when it comes to the stand bag, and the legs pop out with no effort whatsoever. It's got four pockets which can hold a tremendous amout of gear. I currently have my rain pants, rain jacket, golf shoes, and of course enough golf balls for one round of golf (which amounts to about three boxes). Finally, it has a very convenient pocket for a water bottle (or a beer bottle) that is easily reached without removing the bag from your back.

The only thing I don't like about the bag is that I prefer to have more dividers for keeping my clubs organized and not clanging together.

So who cares what Larry thinks? That heavy old cloth golf bag deserves to be at the bottom to the lake! I just wish I had grabbed my car keys out of the side pocket before casting it into its final resting place.
