This course is what one of my more snooty friends would call "A Dog Track." However, I've had a lot of fun on this golf course. Whenever I can talk my girlfriend into playing golf with me, I take her here. We take our sweet time batting the ball around without anybody giving us any grief for taking too long.
It's a pretty easy golf course for you lower handicappers, but a good challenge for those of you just starting out.
A couple of my favorite things are:
1) It's located right next to the Portland International Airport and the adjacent Portland Air National Guard. I think it's cool to watch the jets take off and land. From the 6th tee box, you can actually see the runway and the tarmac where five or six F18s sit. If you are lucky, you can watch them take off while you are hitting your drive (usually around 2pm daily).
2) In addition, even though the course is pretty short and easy, the greens are really good and challenging. At first glance they seem pretty flat, but there are a lot of hidden breaks that will challenge even the best putters.
3) Finally, after your round, there is great meat store right down the street called Gartner's Country Meat Market. I always look forward to playing Colwood just to swing by the meat market on the way home and grab a couple of porterhouses for the grill.
