Everybody is talking about these shoes. I noticed them at the beginning the year because I watch the Champion's tour. Now that Fred sported them at The Masters, they've now shown up on Amazon.

At first glance, they look like your typical boat shoes, but a closer look reveals a specially designed golf sneaker. The bottom is more of a cleat than a spike. There are rows of rubber nubs along the bottom about half the size of the head of a golf tee.

The shoes are made of a durable and breathable textile lining with a microfiber heel grip. The Ecco Comfort Fibre System is a removable Cambrelle-covered inlay sole that helps increase air circulation and keep your feet cool and dry throughout your round.

Freddy claims he wears them because they take pressure off of his back and help him to play with less back pain. And he certainly played great at the 2010 Masters while wearing them, contending for the championship that was won by Phil Mickelson.

I would recommend these shoes to all golfers who are looking for comfort over performance. However, they are a bit out of my price range. For a more traditional-looking shoe that is extremely comfortable, I really like the Footjoy Contour series.

Get this: They even have skid proof "cleats" on the bottom. Finally! I can't tell you how many times I've been practicing my golf swing in the kitchen on the hardwood floor, only to lose my footing. It's about time somebody manufactured a bedroom slipper for those of us who practice in our kitchen driving ranges and on our living room carpet practice greens. (By the way, if you are lucky enough to have somebody that cohabitates with you, be careful they are not in one of those "moods" when you are chipping baked potatoes over the couch.)

These slippers are soft, padded, and very comfortable. They feature embroidered kilty. (Does anybody know what embroidered kilty is? Please email me!) I'm just kidding -- this of course is the flap that hangs over the laces, just like real dorky golf shoes.

These are a great gift item for Dad or that golfer in your family. In addition, check out these BedHead Men's Golf Pajamas. They make a great compliment to these lovely golf slippers, and no self-respecting golf dork would wear one without the other.

I like ‘em, but I'm sure the golf purist would disagree (but what does he know -- he still wearing those ugly black & white stiff shoes?) Not only that, I saw old-timer Champions Tour pro Fred Couples sporting a pair of non-traditional looking Eccos the other day as he battled Tom Watson to the wire. (He lost by one stroke.)

I'll take comfort over fashion any day, and these shoes have both. The toe is wide while the heel is narrow. It has a durable TPU outsole that is watertight, and the shoe is waterproof and comes with a one-year waterproof guarantee.

Although this shoe is waterproof, I would take that with a grain of salt. My experience with waterproof golf shoes is that there is no such thing as a completely waterproof shoe. However, I might be an atypical control group as it never stops raining where I live in Portland.

For a shoe I can promise you will keep your feet dry, check out the ECCO Men's Classic Saddle GTX GoreTex Golf Shoe. This shoe isn't as sporty looking, but it has a 3-year waterproof guarantee and is very comfortable.

Ecco is that fashionable shoe company out of Denmark. These shoes have a modern look to them and are definitely not your typical-looking standard golf shoe. However, recently I spotted Champion's Tour pro Freddy Couples sporting some Ecco shoes that looked very cool.

These Men's Ultra Performance were designed with comfort in mind. They are all leather with a rubber sole. The leather uppers hug your feet and support your foot when taking that mighty lash with the big dog.

The coolest thing about the shoe besides its stylin' appearance is the triple density, lightweight TPU (thermoplastic urethane) outsole with a visible carbon fiber reinforced shank. This provides maximum performance and support. In addition, the insole is an anatomically-shaped 5mm.

The downside to these shoes is they aren't waterproof. This is a must for me, living in the rainy Northwest. For a classic-looking Ecco shoe that is both comfortable and waterproof, check out the ECCO Men's Classic Saddle GTX Gore-Tex Golf Shoe. Of course these shoes won't be as comfortable as the Hydro, but they will keep your feet warm and dry.

Okay, maybe just asked throughout a few ages.

I believe Ecco has achieved this. These Ecco Men's Classic Saddle GTX are made with gore tex and completely waterproof and come with a 3-year waterproof guarantee. What's more, these shoes come with all kinds of performance enhancing qualities.

The heel has an anatomical heel counter to keep it in place. The insole is removable and has a shock-absorbing foam that provides arch support and absorbs moisture from your foot. The outsole was designed for the golf swing, giving additional traction and grip throughout your backswing and follow-through.

This is a top-of-the-line shoe and they've really covered everything. Even the laces are waxed so they don't come untied. The cleats are Eclipse made by Trisport. They have the Fast Twist systems which are quickly removed and replaced.

The biggest drawback I can find is in the price. These shoes are certainly worth it, but they come with a hefty price tag. For a sportier looking, less expensive waterproof golf shoe, check out the ECCO Men's Casual Cool Ribbon Golf Shoe or the Footjoy Golf- DryJoys Golf Shoes.

These shoes are designed with full-grain waterproof leather uppers and a contoured urethane midsole insert and a contoured ultra-cushioned EVA midsole. What's more is, they come with a two-year waterproof warranty.

It's very rare that I run across a golf shoe that is completely waterproof and also this comfortable. Most fully waterproof shoes are made of stiff leather that takes some time to break in and beat up your feet in the process. This is not the case with these FootJoy Contour shoes. The first time you put them on, they feel like they've already been broken in.

On the down side, I've had problems with these shoes not lasting as long as the aforementioned stiff leather shoes. With these particular shoes, I've had problems with the interior of the shoe wearing out. If this is a concern for you, take a look at Adidas' Fitrx Golf Shoes. These shoes are built to take a beating and are also very comfortable.

This shoe is made of imitation leather. It's a PVC (poly vinyl chloride). It is soft and water-resistant and has a similar look and feel to leather. In addition, this shoe has "Olympic Last." This is an athletic fit which means it has a full-rounded toe, a fuller fit across the forefoot, and a full instep with a narrower heel.

This GreenJoy has rubber insoles and a rubber outsole with Pulsar Cleats. Pulsar Cleats are the best selling cleats in golf.

I would only recommend this shoe if you are just getting into golf and are not looking to play more than a few rounds a year. Otherwise, take a look at FootJoy's DryJoys. For a little more money, you will get a lot more shoe. DryJoys are made of real leather, not the fake stuff like this shoe. The DryJoy is 100% waterproof with a 2-year waterproof warranty. It is one of the most comfortable shoes on the market and totally worth the extra cost. Give it a try and thank me later.

Another cool feature the DryJoy has is "Laser Last." FootJoy has taken a composite of thousands of digital scans from the FootJoy Laser Fitting system and designed a "full rounded toe character, standard fit across forefoot and instep, with a slightly narrow heel."

Finally, another quality that makes this shoe so comfortable is the full leather lining. The leather linings supply slip resistance and breathability for your foot.

The only drawback to FootJoy shoes is durability. This leather is very soft which makes it very comfortable, but you give up a little longer life span that you get with some of the other brands. If you are interested in a more durable shoe, try the NIKE Mens Air Zoom Elite Golf Shoe. These shoes may not be as soft, but will hold up over the long haul.

Another reason the shoe is so comfortable is because it has full leather linings and EVA Fit-Beds. The leather linings are very comfortable and make the shoe breathable, and the EVA Fit is a ethyl vinyl acetate foot bed which cushions under your foot and never loses its shape.

FootJoys are by far the most comfortable shoe on the market. You will not find a more comfortable shoe that is also 100% waterproof. Unfortunately with the soft leather, these shoes tend to wear a little quicker than other high-end brands. If you are interested in a shoe that has a longer life, take a look at Adidas Golf Fitrx Golf Shoes. They have Adidas' AdiTuff technology on the toe. This is an abrasion-resistant material that protects the toe from wear.
