It's time you got on the hybrid bandwagon. Hybrids may take a little getting used to because they look like a fairway wood but feel like an iron.

This Callaway Diablo Edge 4 Lady Hybrid is a good one to start with for you beginners. First, the hosel is offset. This will help the higher handicappers get the clubface closed more easily and avoid that nasty slice. Second, the club has a very low center of gravity. This makes it easier to swing down to the ball, especially in heavy rough, and it gets the ball up quickly and flying high towards the target.

The last thing that I want to point out on this club may not make much difference to you, but you will notice quickly when your ball flies farther than your driver. What I'm talking about is the hybrid has Callaway's VFT. This stands for Variable Face Technology. This gives the face faster balls speeds with a sweet spot that covers the entire club face. This means that you don't have to hit the ball exactly in the middle of the clubface to still have the ball fly far as if you hit it right on the screws.

These bad boys were designed to be more forgiving then those pesky long irons and give you confidence to hit that 200-yard shot over the water, which is heaven compared to trying to skip it across the water with your 3-iron.

The advantage of this particular hybrid is the low profile design. I like this club for mid to low handicappers because the face is not nearly as big as the more game-improving hybrids like the Cobra Ladies Baffler Rail H Hybrid. Don't get me wrong, the low profile face does offer a perimeter weighting that is forgiving -- it's just small. The cool thing about it being small is it gets through the heavy rough better than those big clubheads. Not only that, if you fancy yourself a shot maker -- it's much easier to work the ball with this design.

Another thing you will like about this club is the VFT technology. If you are familiar with Callaway clubs, then you already know this technology provides for a very hot clubface that maximizes balls speeds over the entire clubface.

Let's take a closer look at these esp3 Hybrids. (Sounds very scientific, doesn't it?) The science actually is pretty simple and has been sweeping the golf world for the last five years. They've added mass to the club which brings the center of gravity back and low. This helps the club launch the ball higher faster and is very forgiving.

The idea is valid, and these clubs are okay if you are a beginner and don't want to drop too much money on a set of golf clubs. Remember to buy a sand wedge and a putter separately though if you go with this set.

However, I would urge you to spend just a little bit more money and check out a few other sets. My favorite is the Adams Golf A7OS Starter Set. Adams is the leader in the hybrid market, and this set is reasonably priced and extremely easy to swing. Another set that I like is the Callaway Golf Solaire 9-Piece Complete Club Set. Of course Callaway makes a great product, and this is a great price for a set of golf clubs.

The club is popular because it is extremely forgiving and stable. Let's take a look under the hood:

The club is a triangular head with a stainless steel body. The triangular shape head raises the MOI in the hybrid, and it also reduces drag for faster swing speeds. Yes, that's right -- it's aerodynamic. Plus, the perimeter of the club head has metal injection-molded weights. This further raises the MOI and makes this perhaps the most stable hybrid out there.

The hybrid has Callaway's proven Variable Face Technology. This gives the face faster ball speeds with a sweet spot that covers the entire club face. And finally, the hosel is offset, giving the higher handicapper more control. The offset makes it much easier to square the club at impact. This helps alleviate that slice that's caused by leaving the face open.

The club comes in five different lofts: 18-27 degrees. I recommend the higher lofts for you high handicappers. The higher-lofted club makes it easier to get the ball up and flying high quicker.

Another hybrid I really like is the Callaway Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrid. You can get this hybrid with 32 degrees of loft!

At address, the club should inspire some confidence because the club head is pretty big for a hybrid. However, it's not so big that it won't get through the thick stuff. This is because it has a shallow face with a low center of gravity. This lets the club maneuver through the grass, and the low center of gravity helps you get the ball up quicker and flying high.

I recommend this club for all levels of golfers. I expect that you will throw your 3 iron and 4 iron in the lake after adding this club to your bag.

Another comparable hybrid that I really like is the Callaway Big Bertha Heavenwood 09 Womens Hybrid. This is another very forgiving hybrid with a shallow face. Either one of these hybrids is going to give you some confidence and make the game a lot easier.

The designers have done everything they could think of to help you hit the ball with a closed clubface. If you are a slicer, I can see where this hybrid might appeal to you… But not so fast!

This Orlimar ZX has a 4-degree offset hosel combined with a 4-degree closed face. Man, this thing is really pointing left. If this club were pointing any farther left, it would be Bill Maher. Heyyyoooo! (He's a liberal talk show host on HBO.)

But seriously, I'm a little concerned that with this club, you are going to go from slicing the ball to hitting dead-straight pulls. Thus, instead of missing in the woods right (slicing), you will now be missing in the woods left (pulling).

I'd recommend you go with something a bit less drastic. I really like the Women's Adam's A2 OS Hybrid. It is also generously offset but not so closed as well. It is built with a very low center of gravity and high MOI. This makes the club very forgiving, and the low CG helps get the ball up quicker and flying high.

Once you switch from fighting with those long irons, hitting this will feel like heaven.

Heavenwoods have been around for some time. When I first saw them many years ago, the Heavenwood (a nine wood) was mostly played by seniors with slower swing speeds. However, that didn't last long, and I started seeing them show up in my younger friends' bags.

This Heavenwood was designed with the ladies in mind with a shaft in a ladies flex. It will replace your 3, 4, and maybe even 5 depending on the loft you get. It comes in 23, 26, 29, and 32 degrees. If you are high handicapper, go with the highest loft.

The clubhead is perimeter-weighted and has an elongated low profile face. This will help you easily get the golf ball out of the thick rough. (Something not so easily accomplished with that old 3 iron.)

Finally, the Big Bertha Heavenwood has Callaway's Variable Face Thickness technology. This makes the sweet spot bigger so shots hit off-center will still fly far.

I highly recommend this golf club for all levels of golfers, but especially you high handicappers that are struggling with the long irons. This will quickly become your most favorite club in the bag. Also, give it a try off the tee box as well if you are struggling with your driver.

They have continued to impress with a new hybrid design -- and this one specifically for the ladies! The Adams Golf Women's A2 OS Hybrid is literally one of the easiest hybrids to hit in golf today.

No exaggeration. Just look at why: The center of gravity is farther back than many clubs in circulation today, and is 11 percent lower and 2.5 times deeper than conventional irons. What does this mean? Quicker airborne ball flights that have the "oomph" of a wood behind them.

And finally, no -- I've never hit this club. But it is a Nickent, and it does have some nice technology. It really is a perfectly-weighted club. For a hybrid, this Nickent Lady 3DX Ironwood DC boasts one of the most heavily heel/toe weighted clubs I've seen in a long time. This truly adds to the fact that it is very forgiving. It's very close to the same shape as the Tour favorite 3DX Ironwood, but increases the MOI by 25%.

While being weighted for forgiveness, it's not bulky and doesn't look awkward. The hybrid system really allows for a woman golfer to attain as much distance as possible, and still maintain some control. The best part for the ladies? No distance gaps. No more questioning what club the hybrid is supposed to replace.

Now if you'll excuse me, ma'am, I would kindly ask you to step away from the red boxes while I hit my third shot...
