Odyssey Black i 2 Ball Putter | Weighted Nickel Carbon Steel

Posted on: Sep 30

Odyssey Black i 2 Ball Putter This putter is the ever popular 2-Ball putter, only Odyssey has sent the Black i to charm school. These Odyssey Black Series i putters are beautiful creations. These are designed for more advanced players.

Let's take a look at some of the technology: The first thing you will notice is the attractive nickel-plated finish. It's pleasing to look at address. The putter is precision milled for desired weight and balance. The Tour insert is Odyssey's most responsive insert, constructed of an elastomer core and a striking surface infused with urethane. Finally, Odyssey Black Series i 2-Ball Putter is constructed of multi materials with a 1025 carbon steel body with the weighted 2-Ball wing. This creates the putter's low, deep center of gravity and high MOI.

The 2-Ball putter is Odyssey's bestselling putter. The appeal of these putters is in the ease of aligning the putter using the 2-Ball alignment aid. I've never been a big fan of the 2-Ball alignment without any other aid. I prefer an additional line or dot for a more precise alignment. Odyssey doesn't make one of these in the Black i series, but does have a few available in the White Hot XG series. My favorite is the Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball SRT Lined Putter.

However, if you like the standard 2-Ball putters, you will love this one. This is a player's putter and designed for the elite. Odyssey has gone to great lengths to give this putter an optimal weighting and balance. What's more is, the multi-layer Tour insert gives incredible feel and responsiveness that will be appreciated by the lower handicappers.

What can I say? This is a very charming putter.

Odyssey F7 Putter | 2 Ball Alignment White Hot XG

Posted on: Sep 30

Odyssey F7 Putter "Scotty, I need more power!"

This putter looks just like the spaceship from the TV show Star Trek. Odyssey dropped the ball with the name. They should have called it the White Hot XG SS Enterprise.

Let's take a gander. This is a 2-Ball putter with a little "flare." Wings have been added. This putter is from Odyssey's White Hot XG line. The White Hot XG features a multilayer insert with soft elastomer for feel and a truer roll, and a thin outer striking surface infused with urethane. The light insert combined with the additional wings gives the putter a higher MOI than the traditional 2-Ball putter and a completely different look.

I typically don't like these crazy shaped putters, but this is a smart modification. I love the straight lines! It is a lot easier to line up square to the target when you have straight lines instead of angles.

However, they need to add a dot or line on the clubhead for alignment. With this small addition, I would have given this putter an A+ instead of an A-.

All in all, this is a great modification to the typical 2-Ball putter, and I would recommend this White Hot XG SS Enterprise, urrr sorry, I mean F7 Putter.

Odyssey White Hot XG 2 Ball Putter | Blade Style w/ Alignment Aid

Posted on: Sep 30

Odyssey White Hot XG 2 Ball Putter Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable? Is this putter a blade or a mallet? These are the questions I will address in the blog.

First of all, let's take a look at this 2-ball "whats-a-ma-jigger." The putter face is a blade, but it has 2 balls protruding from its back end. This is similar to Odyssey's Standard 2-Ball Putter, but the wings have been removed. This putter is from Odyssey's White Hot XG line. The White Hot XG features a multilayer insert with soft elastomer for feel and a truer roll, and a thin outer striking surface infused with urethane.

The light insert and the two balls bring the weight of this putter to the rear, giving it a high MOI. Thus, this putter will be more stable than your typical blade putter and a lot more forgiving.

The pros: I love the line drawn on for alignment. This in addition with the 2-Ball alignment system makes this putter a sharp shooting machine.

The cons: It looks like a club that came off the assembly line prematurely. Just get off the fence and dive into the full 2-Ball mallet. I like the 2 ball putters especially when I'm struggling with my confidence standing over those 4 footers.

In fact, I would recommend the Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball SRT Lined Putter. This is a 2-Baller, except Odyssey has added Saturn Ring Technology, two rings that run from the putter face back to the wing of the putter giving the putter an even higher MOI than the standard 2-Ball putter.

To summarize:

1) This Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball Blade Lined Putter is not a blade, the MOI is too high, and the club is too forgiving.

2) I enjoy tomatoes on my sandwiches. I've never put an orange on a bologna sandwich, thus the tomato is definitely a vegetable.

Odyssey Sabertooth Putter | White Hot XG | Large Mallet Alignment

Posted on: Sep 30

Odyssey Sabertooth Putter This putter looks more like a weapon than a golf club. Keep it handy when walking back to your car on a dark night.

These huge teeth that jet off of the putter face of this Sabertooth Putter are designed to raise the MOI. This huge mallet will certainly be incredibly stable. This putter is from Odyssey's White Hot XG line. The White Hot XG features a multilayer insert with soft elastomer for feel and a truer roll, and a thin outer striking surface infused with urethane.

This is an ugly putter. The only good thing I can say about it is it has a nice alignment aid. The two dots on the putter face combined with the textured sweet spot will make this incredibly easy to hit the ball where you are supposed to.

That being said, the curved wings are distracting to me. When I'm putting, I want to look at straight lines. I have graph paper and a ruler in my head, I don't want to look down and see huge curves on my putter.

If you want a big mallet putter, I recommend the Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball SRT Lined Putter. This is Odyssey's classic 2-Ball design with a line added for alignment and Saturn Ring Technology -- two rings that run from the putter face back to the wing of the putter, giving the putter a high MOI.

Check out the 2-Ball SRT, and if you still need a weapon, buy some mace.

Odyssey White Hot XG Teron Putter | Weighted Elastomer Mid Handicap

Posted on: Sep 29

Odyssey White Hot XG Teron Putter What's going on with these crazy shaped putters? This one looks like a spaceship from the movie Star Wars, or a big a huge staple. The funky shape is designed to pull all the weight to the back of the putter. This gives the Teron Putter a high MOI, making it extremely stable and forgiving.

This putter is from Odyssey's White Hot XG line. The White Hot XG features a multilayer insert with soft elastomer for feel and a truer roll, and a thin outer striking surface infused with urethane.

I'm not a big fan of crazy shaped putters. However, I would recommend this putter to those golfers that are jittery over those four footers. This putter will give you some confidence that you will start that putt on line.

I would also recommend the Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball SRT Lined Putter. This is Odyssey's classic 2-Ball design with a line added for alignment. In addition, it has two rings that run from the putter face back to the wing, giving the putter an even higher MOI. It's a smooth, solid-feeling putter, but unfortunately it doesn't look like a spaceship. (Sorry.)

Odyssey White Hot XG Marxman Putter | Large Mallet Alignment Aid

Posted on: Sep 29

Odyssey White Hot XG Marxman Putter I love the racing stripes on this putter! It shouldn't be called the Marxman; it should be called the "Dale Earnhardt!"

Let's take a closer look. This is a big ol' half-moon-shaped mallet putter with incredible alignment aids running the length of the mallet. It's from Odyssey's Hot XG line. The White Hot XG features a multilayer insert with soft elastomer for feel and a truer roll, and a thin outer striking surface infused with urethane. In addition, it has a textured sweet spot on the face.

If you like big mallet putters, this is a good one to buy. I recommend these for golfers that are struggling with those tough short putts. The high MOI and perimeter weighting make it easy to stroke through with confidence.

However, I feel like I lose some feel that is needed on the longer putts when using the big mallets. I really like the little brother of this putter, the Odyssey White Hot XG Marxman Mini Putter. It's the same putter but smaller. This putter will give you a better feel than the jumbo size.

Plus, you still get the racing stripes. Call it the "Earnhardt Junior!"

Odyssey Marxman X Act Putting Wedge | Chipping Club Alignment Aid

Posted on: Sep 29

Odyssey Marxman X Act Putting Wedge Here's a cute little chipper. It's not really a wedge, and it certainly isn't a putter. Why it's a "Wudger!"

This club is very similar to the Odyssey White Hot XG Marxman Putter, only they've added some loft to the club to get the ball in the air quicker when putting the ball from off of the green. It is very easy to hit and has a dot and two "racing stripes" for alignment aids.

This club is designed for higher handicappers that are struggling with their chipping game. This is a good solution to those chipping woes. Having a putter-like club in your hands will give you the confidence to make a good stroke, instead of that dreadful decelerating jab that you typically do with your traditional chipping club.

On the other hand, as your game progresses you will not need this little "helper." If I were to take this club out of my bag during a round of golf with my regular golf buddies, I would never live it down. Plus, you can putt with a hybrid club or fairway wood with the same results. It takes a little practice, but try it next time you are on the practice green.

Finally, if you aren't afraid of a little "kidding" from your buddies, get yourself a "Wudger."

Odyssey White Hot Tour Rossie Putter | Small Mallet, Bronze w/ Alignment Aid

Posted on: Sep 29

Odyssey White Hot Tour Rossie Putter I enjoy reviewing these White Hot Tour putters from Odyssey. The bronze color is easy on the eyes. Actually, that's the reason Odyssey made it this darker color -- to eliminate glare.

I really like this Rossie Putter because the small mallet design gives me better feel than the larger mallets. What's more is, this Tour Rossie is even more responsive because Odyssey has made the multilayered insert a bit firmer than in the White Hot XG series putters.

The other big difference from the White Hot XG is in the weighting. The Tour Series uses weights in the sole to customize the length of the shaft with the weight of the putter. In other words, as the shaft gets longer, Odyssey reduces the weight in the sole, thus giving each putter its own specialized balance.

This is a putter designed for the advanced golfer. I would recommend this putter for a low handicapper that can appreciate an extremely responsive and balanced putter.

Otherwise, if you like the looks of this putter but you aren't ready to shell out for the "premium petro," take a look at the Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie Putter. It's a great putter. It just hasn't been tweaked for the scratch player.

Odyssey 2 Ball Lined Putter | Mallet White Hot XG w/ Alignment Aid

Posted on: Sep 28

Odyssey 2 Ball Lined Putter I complained and complained about the 2-Ball putter not having a line on in it, and lo and behold I find this Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball Lined Standard Putter. Now this is a 2-Baller I can get behind!

The 2-ball putters started the big mallet putter craze some time ago. The two qualities that are most appealing are the high MOI and the ease of alignment of the two golf balls on the putter head. Plus now there is a third one: the line that bisects the 2 balls to give an even more dead-on alignment system.

This putter is from Odyssey's White Hot XG line. The White Hot XG features a multilayer insert with soft elastomer for feel and a truer roll, and a thin outer striking surface infused with urethane.

This putter is one of Odyssey's bestselling putters, and for good reason. The putter is much lighter in weight than it looks and has decent feel for a big mallet putter.

I recommend this putter for those golfers that are looking for a forgiving putter that will give them more confidence stroking in those 4 footers.

Also, take a look at the Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball SRT Lined Putter. This is the same putter only Odyssey has added Saturn Ring Technology. This is two rings that run from the putter face back to the wing of the putter, giving the putter an even bigger MOI.

Thanks Odyssey for the lines. I owe ya.

Odyssey 2 Ball Blade Putter | White Hot XG

Posted on: Sep 28

Odyssey 2 Ball Blade Putter Do you dip your big toe in the shallow end of the pool, or do you just dive right into the deep end? I'm pretty sure Odyssey designed this putter for guys like me: "Toe-Dippers."

This putter is a hybrid of a blade putter and a 2-ball putter. In other words, it's a 2-ball putter with the wings shaved off.

Let me give you the specs on this interesting-looking putter. This putter is from Odyssey's White Hot XG line. The White Hot XG features a multilayer insert with soft elastomer for feel and a truer roll, and a thin outer striking surface infused with urethane.

The 2-ball design is engineered to give the club a huge MOI while giving you a spot-on alignment aid. Just line up your golf ball with the two balls and take a smooth stroke.

Although I'm a blade guy, I'm not a big fan of this hybrid. In the case of the 2-ball putters, I say dive right in. This particular putter looks they shipped out one of the prototypes before they put in the finishing touches.

I like the 2-ballers, especially for those of you struggling with those short putts. Try the 2-ballers, but with a couple of modifications. Get the one with the lines drawn for alignment: the Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball SRT Lined Putter. It also incorporates the Saturn Ring Technology (SRT) Technology which gives it a very high MOI.

I like having the best of both worlds, and with the lined 2-ball putter you get two great alignment aids which make this putter a sharp shooting machine.

Go ahead, dive in. The water is fine.
